Tabula Rasa beta, World in Conflict demo debut

Sample of Sierra's alternate-history RTS and beta key for NCsoft's sci-fi MMORPG are now available on GameSpot.

by

A major PC demo and beta were released today on GameSpot. The first was for World in Conflict, the forthcoming real-time strategy title from Sierra Entertainment and Massive Entertainment. The game, which recently went gold, will arrive on September 18 for the PC. (An Xbox 360 version is due at a later date.)

Set in an alternate future, World in Conflict outlines a Red Storm Rising-like World War III between the United States and the still-extant Soviet Union. Narrated by Hunt for Red October star Alec Baldwin, it will also allow up to 16 players to engage in online battles, issuing orders with keyboard or VoIP commands. The demo includes a tutorial, a single-player map, and a multiplayer "domination" mode, as well as DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 support.

RTS-averse GameSpot Total Access subscribers have the option of downloading the beta for Tabula Rasa, the new massively multiplayer online role-playing game from Ultima creator Richard "Lord British" Garriott. Set to be published by NCsoft later this year, the game will offer a science-fiction alternative to the fantasy titles that dominate the MMORPG market. Though it can be downloaded at any time, the beta will be available to play only from 3 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. More details can be found on GameSpot's Tabula Rasa beta page.

tabula rasa is really nothing special. i've did the fileplanet test and i dunno, i wasnt over excited about it. lacks the main interactive aspects of an MMO RPG, instances are a bit simplistic and there is no pvp. however it is definitely a promising game, and with some expansions and patching could be a good substitute for WoW. my betting horse is still WAR Online.

I wish tabula rasa was for the consoles! *anger*

World in Conflict was awesome at PAX, I guess there are folks who might not like it... but my friends and I thought it was a blast. Instant action, no resource management, no base building, just strategy and battles.

"Alllrrrrrric Bradwin" -Kim Jong Il Alec Baldwin is really narrating World in Conflict? THats gotta be the biggest celeb in gaming history since James Earl Jones in Tiberian Sun!

no 360 version, no wii version, I do believe NCsoft has a contract to support publishing exclusively with PS3 : )

reactionsok: so dumb - why no wii version? _______________________________ no offense but it would probably explode

I have World in Conflict beta that I still haven't used because I downloaded it on my Mac and I have no way of getting onto my Vista. Now that the demo is out I cat just toss that stupid beta and download the demo. Demos are way better than betas anyway. Stupid Tabula Rasa fans and your betas! The World in Conflict fans and I will be having fun on our lag-free demo while you have very glitch ridden beta. Demos >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> betas

i pre-ordered the game, i don't like the fact everyone else gets in on the action. you don't get the extras, but still figured the beta this early would be a little more closed up. not to mention the fact the last 2 days have been REALLY LAGGY. now i know why.

TR wasn't a stress test therefor they didn't need to let everyone in the world play.

Umm...there have been several betas that only Total Access Subscribers had access to. I guess if you're not a subscriber you don't get all the alerts for em.

"Hellswrath99 Only Total Access subscribers can play the beta? First time I've seen that, and I don't think I like the change." Yeah, odd how people who pay for stuff might get access to stuff early...you could just pre-order the game to get into the beta...oh wait Tabula Rasa makes you pay that way also....and you fools blame GameSpot. Gamespot doesn't charge you for this beta...they charge you for highspeed access and HD clips. If you don't want it, stick with the free stuff.
