Supreme Commander ordered to Xbox 360

Gas Powered Games' real-time strategy PC hit confirmed for release on Microsoft's console early next year.

by

Last month, Gas Powered Games founder Chris Taylor let slip in an interview that he was bringing his PC real-time strategy game Supreme Commander to consoles. THQ was mum on the subject at the time, for reasons made clear today.

Supreme Commander has indeed been announced for the Xbox 360 this morning. However, the company confirming the fact is not THQ, but Austin-based publisher Aspyr Media. Aspyr has teamed up with upstart British Columbia-based studio Hellbent Games to bring Supreme Commander to Microsoft's console. This will be the publisher's first game for the Xbox 360.

Beyond simply adapting the PC game's interface to work with a standard controller, Hellbent and Aspyr are adding exclusive new units, additional multiplayer modes, and tweaked maps. Naturally, players will be able to test their strategic aptitude against one another over Xbox Live.

For more on what Hellbent and Aspyr are working from, check out GameSpot's full review of the PC original.

Wooo I hope this port will succeed... but when you see the actual screenshots.. they have a lot of work to do :(

Supcom is fast paced? whaaaat? it takes over an hour to play a normal 2v2 skirmish, and the campaign missions take at least that long each. Building experimentals that take 10-20 odd mins each is not fast paced in my book.

I doubt they'll let 360 and PC people play together I play it on PC and it's one of the fastest-paced RTS games out. It will be a lot slower-paced on 360. Although that would probably end up being a good thing, considering 360's don't have as much processing power as most peoples computers that play SupCom. Less units means less strain, so no lag.

it allows people who don't have powerful computers to play what pc fans already have been

This is very interesting, I wonder how the control scheme will fare? As many others have mentioned, SupCom is a click heavy game, both on the mouse and the keyboard. It moves VERY fast with a lot more units and buildings than either CnC3 or BFME2. Hopefully it does work out well on the 360, it's very good game that more people, not just those with decent PC's should be able to play. Unfortunately looking at those new screens, probably won't be the same - no shadows on the units, low LOD (especially on distant terrain), crippled view distance. I can just upgrade my computer to play this game properly, 360 owners can't upgrade their consoles.

Now this is interesting. I wonder if they will let PC owners play with 360 ones. Probably not, although it is a games for windows title.

Well .... now the computer has lost its most important genre..... strategy games..... dont get me wrong im not mad...... i just hope that this game is able to run on the 360... it couldnt even run on the best of the best of computers and they were up to date with hardware.... i hope they release a mouse and keyboard or else it would suck to play with a controller .....

This game was great on the PC...but my laptop isn't powerufl enough to play it on very high settings...maybe, if this works, i'll get to see it in all it glory.

This game could use the new messenger kit for the xbox 360. when i saw that the chad pad was coming out, i thought it would be a good idea to put it to use in a RTS game.

So, when I play on XBL will my monkeylord miss all the time, just like I miss my beatdowns on H3?

so if we want the latest units we have to buy it for the 360?

This would be a golden oportunity for MS to introduce an Xbox branded wireless keyboard and mouse (bundled or seperately ala Guitar Hero 3). Just because CC3 and BFME played well on the standard controller doesn't mean that it can't get better. Here's hoping....

"Now that the Xbox 360 proved consoles are powerful enough to play RTS you will see a lot more. Sorry, you just don't need a PC for RTS games anymore." P. H. A. I. L. RTSs where never about power, keyboard and mouse are essential for a good strategy experience: they make it easier and faster to select/move/build/etc.

Xbox 360 is has LOTS of great Real-Time Strategy games. Right now I enjoy playing Command & Conquer 3, and Battle for Mid-earth 2. I am also looking forward to Halo Wars. ...and this one looks awesome too!!!

"It'll be good because its supcom." If they end up doing every thing you just stated, then the game would be terrible. "But the controls and limits of the 360 will result in scaled down battles and dumbed down graphics." People who don't have a great computer will have this problem to begin. So what's your point? "Or dumbed down graphics and big battles." Same thing. If you don't have a computer to run the game at its full potential. "And the controls will always be better for the PC. Simple." It just requires more skill to play it on the 360.

MasterChief725

yes, that is why it is a really long game. But notice how this game is being brought to X360 by a different publisher than THQ?? This looks great for MGS4 (X360) Because a different publisher will bring it to X360. Its cool that MGS4 will come to X360, but i'd rather have Splinter Cell Conviction anyway.

yeah its good, but what do you guys think of the long playing times, now i know for some of you that isnt a problem, for me i want able to complete games, i cant really play for then hour at a time, i get agitated or i have to do other things..lol im always busy...

MasterChief725

This game was awesome. Think Company of Heroes, except better. They are both by THQ, and I didnt like the WWII setting of that game. This game is super awesome, and it will be great on X360 to!

hmm this was an ok game, i like CoH better, i think personally, the game takes way to long to play..lol..i played the beta and the demo, jsut didnt like the long amounts of playing time, but it certainly wasa cool idea, the untis are sick and one of the best looking RTS's out there

I already had a blast with this game on PC. I know I'm a Xbox fan but I get all my love RTS and MMORPG from my PC. Pc is just better suited with the controls. To each their own. This game never was graphic intensive but the huge battles and the ability to scroll out to world veiw and manage the epic battles will make the 360 processor and limited ram cry for mercy.

"I can assure everyone, the reccomended requirements for Supreme Commander are a 3.0 GHZ SINGLE CORE processor, and 256 MB of graphics memory, dont foget, that is recommended, not required, so you can actually run it on a lower PC, but the Xbox 360 has a 3 core 3.2 GHZ processor, and around 550MB of graphics memory. The console can easily handle this game! And it is going to be amazing!" you know nothing about hardware. 1.8ghz core 2 duo is easily 2x the power of a 3ghz pentium d. each of the 360's cores are 2x the power of the cpu in xbox 1  and that come out of a devs mouth. the 360 has 512mb total run shared between cpu and gpu - 32mb for the os. yes it will work on the 360 with reduced settings but it wont be as good as the pc version and then you have to problem with the controls. a rts with gamepad is like a racing game with the keyboard, they don't really work

Oh boy they'll have scale this down somehow. However, with Aspyr taking over, I'm a bit worried they'll screw up a great PC RTS in bringing it over to the console. They better take some hints from, EA of all companies since they did a good job with C&C 3 and LoTR. Yeah taking advice from EA...weird...

I'm sure that they'll decide to add usb keyboard/mouse support. They need to for the amount of micro management involved in this game.

I'm sorry but RTS's almost always fail on a console, no matter how great developers say it will be
