Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn is reportedly in talks to helm the new Superman movie, Man of Steel 2.

Collider heard from sources that Vaughn is speaking with Warner Bros. about the gig, though discussions are said to be "preliminary" and have not advanced to the "deal-making stage" yet. Even if Vaughn does not get the Superman gig, Warner Bros. is interested in having him direct a different move in the DC superhero universe, the report said.

Vaughn is no stranger to superhero/comic book films, as he directed X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass.

Vaughn and Kick-Ass comic writer Mark Millar previously ame up with an idea for a Superman movie, pitching it to Warner Bros. in 2010. Vaughn told MTV News that discussions with the studio were only "very brief." Warner Bros. ended up greenlighting the version from Christopher Nolan and David Goyer that would be made into 2013's Man of Steel.

In the MTV News interview from 2010, Vaughn hinted at the tone his Superman movie would have had.

"I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version," he said. "Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me."

Vaughn's next movie is Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which comes out in October.

Henry Cavill played Superman for the first time in Man of Steel and reprised the role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He'll next be seen in Justice League, which comes out this year.

Man of Steel made $668 million at the global box office and represented the first entry in the DC Cinematic Universe. In August 2016, a source for The Wrap told the site that a new Superman movie is a "top priority" for Warner.

Last year, Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe said the studio originally planned to make more standalone Superman movies but later elected to pursue a DC film that featured both Superman and Batman.
