Capcom's Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition--part of Nintendo 3DS's worldwide launch lineup--won rapt reviews. Now, its publisher has announced that the portable fighting game has reached a new commercial milestone.

The Osaka-based game company today sent word that Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition has shipped--not sold--1 million units globally. The game launched in Japan with the 3DS on February 26, in the UK on March 25, and in North America on March 27.

3D fighting has proven fruitful for Capcom.

In addition to announcing the new commercial milestone for the latest Street Fighter game, Capcom noted that the entire Street Fighter franchise--which debuted in 1987--has shipped 31 million units globally.

Super Street Fighter IV saved me from buying a 3DS right now with no specific game for it. I need a second DS for Pokemon trades and I'm looking forward to future titles.

Not surprising at all. 3D akuma should be quite awesome.

Well sure, it was the only 3DS launch title that wasn't completely abysmal, figures it would do well.

This game is amazing, so this shouldn't be a shock.

@blackace I guess that's alright as a reason to be happy "we shipped them so we're good." lol I still think shipping isn't as much of a bragging right as UNITS SOLD is though(which is what a company like sony or nintendo love to brag about most of all).. even the article says "has shipped--not sold--" to point out that it's not that great of a thing.. ;| still, like I said before it's cool if they're happy about it.

@blackace Exactly, the publisher doesn't see any more money after retailers sell them.

Sort of the best of the bad. Nothing worth owning on the 3DS yet IMO but you kind of need to buy a game when you buy a new system... This just proves it is worthwhile as a developer to get a game out at launch, any game really. If you can get a game with a well know name, even better. It doesn't even have to be any good.

Well, to be fair, is one of the few good games (maybe the best) in the current lineup so it's good to see a great title having a good demand.

@gohoanq I'm not really sure what's so great about shipping units.. buuuut they're proud of it so cool lol Still, it Is a great game and it's Damn good for a hand held game period. ************************************************************ You have to remember that for the publishers are sold to the retailers. It's a milestone for them because those games aren't coming back. It's pretty safe to say that those million will get sold eventually since the 3DS just launched.
