It should be out "in a couple months."

Acclaimed 2010 indie game Super Meat Boy is coming to Wii U, it has been announced. The game's Wii U release was referenced earlier this week during a Nintendo Direct, but has now been confirmed by co-designer Tommy Refenes. He says on Twitter that the game, developed externally by BlitWorks, is coming out in "a couple months."

In October, Refenes strongly suggested that a Wii U version of the game was in the works. "To the fan's we're still excluding I'll leave you with this: Wii haven't forgotten about U," he said at the time.

Super Meat Boy was first released for Xbox 360 in 2010. Since then, it has been made available on most platforms, including Xbox One (by way of backwards compatibility), as well as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The Wii U release will mark the first appearance of Super Meat Boy on a Nintendo system.

The PS4 and PS Vita versions of Super Meat Boy do not include the game's original soundtrack due to licensing issues, but it's not immediately clear if the same will be true for the Wii U edition.

The strained development of Super Meat Boy was one of the key storylines of 2012 documentary Indie Game: The Movie.
