Sumo Battle First Look

OK, so you won't find any Sumo sims in the US, but they are still super cool to play.

Bottom Up's cartoon-style Sumo Battle for the Nintendo 64 was released in Japan last week. We picked an import copy of the title - here's what we saw.

Players begin the title by choosing one of six wrestlers to compete in the sumo championships, and then start on the long hard road of working their way up the ranks.

The storyline varies depending on the wrestler's performance, ranging from him receiving write-ups in the newspaper to getting kicked out of his home. Players can add to their characters' abilities by "purchasing" them with points awarded for their previous successes. The game also includes a one- to four-player tournament mode and a one-on-one fight against the computer or a second player.

It is unknown whether the game will be brought out in the US, though its niche market quality makes it fairly unlikely.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the import review of the title on VGS soon.
