Suicide Squad Director on the Real Reason for Reshoots

No humor, just action.

With the upcoming DC supervillain team-up Suicide Squad currently undergoing reshoots, there has been some speculation about what the new footage will entail. Earlier this month, it was reported that Warner was attempting to lighten the tone of the movie following the negative reactions to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now director David Ayer has commented on the controversy.

Ayer tweeted today [April 11] that the reshoots were in fact offered to him by the studio to increase the amount of action in the film. He stated:

Ayer's comments follows those made by actor Jai Courtney last week. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang, also stressed that the new material would focus on action rather than humour and character moments.

"I wouldn't say we're going back to make it funnier," he said. "There's some additional action stuff that we've been doing, which is pretty dope. Really, we're just kind of adding in that sense. You can't believe everything you read."

Suicide Squad tells the story of a group of death row supervillains who are employed covertly by the US government to perform dangerous missions, in return for reduced prison sentences. It also stars Jared Leto as Joker, alongside Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

A new trailer was screened this weekend at the MTV Movie Awards. Check that out here.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
