Strategy First has almost finished Submarine Titans, a real-time strategy game that takes place underwater. It's a seemingly conventional real-time strategy game with an unconventional premise and a host of unusual gameplay features.

Instead of different terrain tilesets, Submarine Titans will take place at varying depths underwater. The game will use lighting to good effect in order to portray the deeper and murkier waters, just as it'll show off shimmering and shadowing effects more toward the surface. But the 3D water depths won't just be pretty to look at - you'll get to use it for defensive cover and for hiding from the enemy's sight for ambushes.

The game takes place in the mid-21st century, after a comet has shattered the surface of Earth and driven the remnants of civilization underwater. Two rival factions, the White Sharks and the Black Octopi, now vie for power - and thanks to a newly discovered element left by the comet, these two opposing forces have the resources to succeed. Unfortunately, they discover a third contender for Earth in the midst of their conflict, and this alien force may be even more powerful than the both of them combined. Submarine Titans will let you play as these three different factions, each with their own unique set of subs and undersea facilities.

In addition, Submarine Titans will offer a host of customizable gameplay features. It'll have a full map editor and will let you customize artificial-intelligence scripts and unit formations. Also offered is a random-map generator, as well as a full tutorial and in-game help. Submarine Titans will let you research new technology, salvage enemy ships for resources, steal the enemy's technological breakthroughs, and more. Stay tuned for hands-on impressions of the game from the show floor.
