The long-awaited sequel to Stronghold has reached completion and is currently available in retail outlets around the US, says 2K Games, Take-Two Interactive's new subbrand. The PC game offers new 3D graphics and a blend of city-building simulation and strategic combat. Developer Firefly Studios is the house behind the original Stronghold and Space Colony.

"The Stronghold series showcases our love of castles and medieval life," said lead designer Simon Bradbury. "With Stronghold 2, we've added more depth to both the castle life and siege gameplay."

In Stronghold 2, players must design a castle, gather resources and finances to build it, and defend it against rampaging hordes of catapult-equipped pillagers. New to the sequel is the path of peace, which lets lords of the manor focus on the intricacies of day-to-day castle life. The game features a story-driven single-player campaign and advanced multiplayer features for online sieges.

Stronghold 2 is rated T for Teen and retails for $39.99. For more information, siege GameSpot's previous coverage, or check back next week for the full review.
