Namco today announced that its street racing simulation has gone gold. Street Racing Syndicate will be released on August 31 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. The game is rated "T" for Teen and will retail for $49.99.

Developed by UK-based Eutechnyx, Street Racing Syndicate gives players a chance to customize 50 officially licensed vehicles with hundreds of possible modifications. Races take place in actual locations in Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia, and owners of the Xbox and PS2 versions can take the action online.

Street Racing Syndicate is part of a wave of recent games that attempt to replicate the underground street racing brought to pop culture by the Fast and the Furious films. Other such games in the works are Juiced from Acclaim and Electronic Arts' Need for Speed Underground 2. Both games are due by the end of the year.
