Street Fighter X Tekken striking consoles March 6

Capcom confirms Xbox 360, PS3 launch date; PC version now in development; Special Edition contents revealed.

Capcom had a big presence at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, using the event to announce Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and new characters for Street Fighter X Tekken. This weekend's New York Comic-Con appears to be no different, as the publisher announced today as part of a session that Street Fighter X Tekken will be available in the US on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 6 and in Europe on March 9.

The Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition.

That's not all, though. As part of the NYCC session, producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed that work has just begun on a PC edition of Street Fighter X Tekken. Capcom did not offer a launch date for the PC and PlayStation Vita edition of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Additionally, Ono offered first word on the Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition for North America. The premium package includes the game, as well as a "build-it-yourself" arcade cabinet bank (measuring 5 inches in height) and a prequel comic book from UDON. The Special Edition also includes 36 "gems," which are a gameplay mechanic announced today that modify a character's abilities and stats.

Capcom did not announce a price for the Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition and had not responded to a request for comment as of press time. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

So does the capcom boycott apply to this game? Tekken is easily my favorite tournament game.

@DaneGamer In the mean time you can remember: Dark Stalkers, Rival Schools, Megaman Legends, Breath of Fire, Cyberbots (Tested in ONE American Arcade), Shantae (now published by it's mother company), Strider, Final Fight, Demons Crest, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Gladiator... I can go on if you want me to. Heck, most people missed out on a great fighing game because it was on the Neo Geo Pocket color (SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium) because the system didn't sale well and so the game lacked in sales. What goes through Capcom's head is all they see is the game is not doing well so the formula must not be that good, let's go with some ratio BS for the arcade versions. That Neo Geo Pocket version was the BEST of the SNK VS Capcom deal and you had to have a NGPC to play the freaking game. My point is we miss out on good games because of lack of sales due to boycotts, lack of advertisement, cutting content from games... ect. That is just the way Capcom works.

@DaneGamer For your info, I don't buy downloadable characters for my games because I feel the same way you do about it. How long have you been a gamer? Have you seen how Capcom works since the NES. Did you even keep up with the market and not just the games? I'm telling you, Capcom of America has ALWAYS done what they FEEL like and never listen to the gamers. Go ahead and boycot the game and see what happens. Sure, most game companies will take notice and listen to how we feel, but Capcom of America does not care. They see what they want to see. I'm telling you, if the game doesn't sale, they are going to just not make it anymore, or in America's case, they will not publish it over here. Yeah, I absolutly HATE the new download era we are in because it is all a marketing scam, but that has noting to do with this case. My point is, a boycot on Capcom can do more harm than good, but if that is the route you want to go, so be it. Namco might listen to you on their half of the game, as they are more accepting to what people want. Perhaps Capcom is just too cocky. So if you are more concerned with Namco's side then perhaps a boycot would do you some good, but I can promise you it is NOT going to work with Capcom. They'll just not make that title ang work on some other title that DOES sale.

I'll wait for the pc version to play the game in all its glory

Sounds like fun, but Capcom does way too many Ultimate or Turbo or whatever editions - I'll wait.

@punkdsk8erdude Sounds like you are looking forward more to the Namco version that the Capcom one. Me too buddy although I love street fighter as well so I'll be getting this one and I'd advise that you do too. I understand you say you've never played much street fighter but give it a chance. When they initially annouced these games they did say that the Capcom version will be available first and in an interview i saw last year with Katsuhiro Harada, he mentioned that Tekken X Street fighter will probably be available in 2013 so I'm guessing we will only probably start seeing trailers and demo builds during the course of 2012. Personally I think they should take all the time they need and get the game right, I felt that the March 2012 release date for Street Fighter X Tekken was too soon but then again I played the latest build of the game at South Africa's Rage Expo a couple of weeks back and I liked it.

sounds good. but ive always preferred the tekken series....in fact ive never owned a SF game before though, only played them briefly. Perhaps I will get both this and the Tekken version. Btw, does anyone know anything about Tekken x Streetfighter? We've heard so much about Capcom's game, but nothing of Namco's game...are they doing this on purpose as to not compete with each other during the launches of the games? If anything i would've thought they would've planned a launch date that coincides with each other FOR the competition..regardless, i'm disappointed that literally NOTHING has been said about Tekken x Streetfighter. *sigh.

First I thought they were gonna aim for a Nov. release date when Street Fighter X Tekken was first announced, but Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is already going to grab those sales. I'm still debating whether or not to even consider buying this special edition after the screw job the Capcom gave us after people brought the collector's edition of MVC3. I mean after everything settled in just realized that all people got out of the whole deal was a fancy case and a comic-book. Which sounds like they're aiming for with Street Fighter X Tekken, but again after all is said and done I'm still going to buy the game by me being a fan of both Street Fighter and Tekken.

@xXGANDORAXx, @ahpuck, @HaloPimp978, @godzillavskong, @pcty & more: I totally agree with all of you & the rest who says the same. I didn't buy MvC 3 at all because I knew that Capcom would come out with another version, just like they did it with the SF IV series. Who's to say that they won't try this with SF x Tekken? I was fooled once when I bought the original SFIV, then learned that there was Super Street Fighter IV coming out! Never will I be fooled again.

I like the fact that you can customize even the combos and timing of the moves...I think Capcom are taking the fighting game genre to a completely other level

Excuse me, but when is Tekken X Street Fighter coming out? Weren't they supposed to be announced simultaneously?

EasyComeEasyGo
EasyComeEasyGo

I think the release date is a bad move because Mass Effect 3 will be coming out on that date also. I already pre-order the Limited edition for ME3 and I will be getting ST x Tekken for the Vita. By the way, if I get the PS3 or Vita version, do we still get Cole M. [from Infamous] to be the special Character in SP x Tekken?

I know people here are screaming to not buy the first version of this game and I concur, but knowing Capcom's history with game that don't initially sale well it would play out like this: The lack of sales would cause Capcom to discontinue the game rather fast and cause it to become rather rare, then we will not see an undated version at all because the 1st one didn't sale. Just keep that in mind. I mean I'm not fan of Tekken and would rather have a Namco VS Capcom "fighting game", so ignoring this to wait for a better version wouldn't bother me at all, but I still want it just to beat up on some Tekken characters. I'm just wanting to let those know who are big fans of both sides how Capcom works with these things. If you want to take that chance with them, go for it, but both Capcom AND Namco have been know to discontenue great games due to lack of sales.

I support peoples opinions about how Capcom releases an updated version of their games, not even a year later. The only problem is, if you don't buy this one, then it won't make money. And Capcom might just drop the project all together. I'm not saying they WOULD, just saying they might go, "huh..this game sold poorly..no one must like it." and drop it.

ahpuck
ahpuck

I have a feeling gamers are about to teach Capcom a lesson. Come on people, don't buy this game, wait for the bigger, better and CHEAPER version in the near future. Save your money for other games.

JOKER677

NOBODY should buy this until the ULTIMATE version drops. Surprised people still buy fighting games from a company that releases an updated one within a year.

Its a while since i have played a "VS Beat'em up"...mainly coz they lately play like following: Special, special, jump, special, special, special, block, block, block, jump,special...Win or defeat! I miss those day where normal kicks or punches was more of importance. Thats just my opininion, for you SF or Tekken fans it will be surely a feast ;)

Leonagard

I promise to never buy any fighting game from you Capcom!!!... it hurts to say... cuz I love their classic arcade games like GNG... but after not releasing the new MVC characters as DLC and forcing us to buy the same game again... its not fun!... the old versions just drop their value to 0...

Henninger

Im definately gonna get it eventually. But i'll wait till the final version comes out b4 i get it. I fell 4 it with SF4 & its 3 different versions. & then Capcom pulled that crap with Marvel vs. Capcom 3. So i'll wait. But this will b in my collection. Honestly though, im more interested in Tekken X Street Fighter cuz i wanna c how Namco handles the Street Fighter characters since every version of a 3d Street Fighter game has been bad to awful.

@xp_celik We miss this kind of games for the PC platform... *********************************************************** Fighting games were never tailored for the PC. It's the same way with putting RTS games on game consoles. It's just so wrong.
