Street Fighter producer stepping down

Health issues push Yoshinori Ono to take a temporary break from Capcom's fighting franchise; developer working on patches for Street Fighter X Tekken.

by

The Street Fighter franchise will be without one of its lead producers for some time. Writing on Twitter, Yoshinori Ono said he is temporarily stepping away from his post to recover from an unspecified illness.

Get better soon, Ono.

"I'll refrain from work for current job for a while," he said. "Another person in charge of [Street Fighter] series for a while." Ono added that he will give "constant support" to the franchise.

Street Fighter X Tekken shipped for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 6, and Ono said the development team is "working wholeheartedly" on patches for the game.

On the eve of the game's launch, Capcom admitted that the 12 "downloadable" characters announced as PlayStation Vita exclusives were actually on the discs of the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the game. These fighters will be sold for $20 (1,600 MS points) sometime after the PS Vita version launches this fall.

Hope you soon recover from illness Yoshinori San. (But damn Capcom chief execs and their wallet screwing DLC). Those SFxTekken extras should have been a free timed exclusive to new owners via. code on manual - even EA type online pass codes are less of a rip off than all that multiple DLC bullcrud. Game-On :P.

Like others said maybe people at your company and yourself will begin to realize life is not all about money like the corporate structure drilled into your souls.

Ono is just producing the games, I doubt it's up to him to price it and put locked content inside. Get well, Ono-san. :(

this scenario seems very familiar now, is this not what happen to the president of sony when he fup the ps3 realese by delaying and losing momentum in sales. he said he was satepping down to persue other projects. just saying its a nice way of saying someone had to pay for broken plates.

I read: "hat the 12 "downloadable" characters announced as PlayStation Vita exclusives were actually on the discs of the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the game." What took my attention most is the word "PC". I didn't know it was released on PC... In need of a fighter now, I hope it will really be released...

I wish Ono a good recovery. However, as a producer, Ono has lost my respect the moment he purposely released an overpowered Yun/Yang with SSF4 AE in an effort to sell more copies of the update (Daigo and all the other Japanese players were very public about the imbalance). He followed that up by lying to the SF fanbase about the development community hard at work on Blanka, two days before it was revealed that the characters were already on disc.

[Capcom] O.K. Yoshinori its time for you to step down for a while. [Yoshinori] Why, what have I done?!?[Capcom] You brought shame and dishonor to our company by letting the players know they had locked content in the games. This is supposed to be top-secret. How else are we going to justify re-selling players DLC if they know they already own it and have it on their discs? We must break games into pieces and sell it to the consumer a little at a time. Its the way of the Call of Duty games and it will be our way too! You have ruined that opportunity for us.[Yoshinori] But...[Capcom] I Said good day sir!

Ok, first you confuse and decieve people by re-wrapping 20-year-old gameplay instead of taking innovative, creative strides to break the stagnant place fighting games reside in, now you going to try to sell us updates that WE ALREADY OWN?!? That said, God bless his health and well being. So, who's gonna cheat and steal from us next?

I wish him no harm. Hope he gets better. Maybe after a good rest if he'll decide to come back he'll wake up and see no one likes these Super Ultra Mega Remix editions.

So they are timed exclusives that are already finished within production budget and on the disc but they still want $20. I don't like hearing people are sick but maybe that sea full of bullsh*t you swim in gave you something.

Might get thumb down for this but worth it anyway. I hope you get well soon and thats what happens for not reasleing streetfighter vs takken x in full and other capcom games and the megaman you canceld

He should be wise and while he is recovering from his illness, leave capcom and start his own projects. Inafune and Mikami both did and they are both having great success with their own freedom. Capcom is obviously going down the hole with their business ethics so whats the point of staying with a company who doesn't respect their customers.

Yes. May he get better soon, so he can go back to raping stupid peoples wallets. I know I'd be doing the same.
