Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist debuts May 23

The live-action series based on Capcom’s fighting game also gets a new trailer.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, a live-action series based on Capcom’s fighting game, will debut on May 23, Capcom has announced.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist depicts the formative years of iconic characters Ryu and Ken as they train in the ancient fighting style known as “Ansatsuken” (Assassin’s Fist). The series follows them as they learn about the mysterious past of their master, Gōken, and the tragic legacy of the Ansatsuken style.

The show’s creator, Joey Ansah, will also play the role of Akuma. You might also remember him as one of the agents in The Bourne Ultimatum.

The episodes will air on Machinima’s YouTube channel, and Content Media will later distribute it on TV, on-demand, and DVD and Blu-ray.

Machinima also distributed the live-action series based on the Mortal Kombat fighting games, Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

You can head over to the series’ official website to watch the previously released trailers that introduced Ryu and Ken and Street Fighter: Legacy, the short film which preceded Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

The best Street Fighter film ever made it seems.

They should just ditch the idea of live action (series or movie) for this game in my opinion. Ever since they started, the sequels have only gotten worse than the already bad implementation

They did a cool job with the Mortal Kombat series, (whatever happened with that?), so this might be cool as well. I guess we'll see.

Looks sick. I was looking for the guy in pink Gi just to add a bit of flavor to the movie. Overall, I'll definitely watch it

Well its not Oscar worthy but its not bad for something done on a limited budget. I'm actually looking forward to watching this. I wonder if it gains popularity would Capcom consider it canon? & besides the games, what else is considered canon in Street Fighter/Final Fight anyways? Please let me know.

Still looks better than dragon ball evolution.

Its got all the cheese of any true YT series, but still kinda cool.

Remember this is free to watch, so don't expect theatrical quality.

Well it doesn't star Jean-Claude Van Damme soooooooo it already has a good start.

Looks like someone is taking the material seriously.

Overly dramatic and painful to watch. It's a Street Fighter movie all right =D

Looks more promising than those awful movies....

The Street Fighter series died a while back. The live-action films just add the nails to the coffin.

I'm hoping the producers will concentrate on just delivering on the fight scenes. The stories/scripts WILL be cheesy and the acting WILL be mediocre but that's okay as long as they manage to engage the audience enough and make you look forward to the fight scenes. I think it's important that they put in some effort into actually recreating the combat styles from the characters instead of doing some random fight choreographies that looked cool in Bourne Identy, Bond or Taken. Do STREETFIGHTER choreography please.

Please don't just change characters and their motivations "because we're trying to reach a broader audience to stay profitable and because film is a different medium than a video game so we have to change up pretty much EVERYTHING but the names." Just don't insult the fans.

If one goes back to the Van Damme Streetfighter movie from the 90's and appreciates it for what it is (a slightly trashy action movie with ridiculous characters, that doesn't take itself too serious) then it's actually a very enjoyable movie. It's just not a Streetfighter movie.

In one episode 12 characters are locked in a cage and Ryu has to pay real money to get them out (Street Fighter X Tekken reference).

This looks awesome for what started out as a short fan film several years ago.

At first I thought it said "Street Fighter Assassin's Creed", and was then disappointed.

Do the bitchy kids today even know what Street Fighter is?

Lol Gamespot you finally posted a decent article before the week ended. This is just amazing but its obvious this is a clone of the street fighter alpha generations movie. Cool to see it live but non animated humans have to try so hard and that's why they usually fail. I haven't seen a game done right by a movie since the 1st mortal kombat movie, which till today, is the best video game movie ever no questions about it.

This looks 10x's better then the Jean Claude Van Damme Street Fighter. LOL!! So this is debuting May 23rd. Where is it going to be shown is the big question.

What?! You mean Ryu/Ken's master isn't Shen Long?!

Teehee.

This looks pretty damn good. I can't wait to watch it. Plus I'm glad they're focusing on on just a small amount of characters and not jumping back and forth and shedding very little light in multiple characters.

i'm a big sf fan, but seriously...they don't have the money to make a SF movie look legitimate...

well as legitimate as (the best)CGI looks....

it ends up looking like a B movie...

...none of these actors looks like ANY street fighter...nvm the franchise, they dont look like they could survive the bullies in my old school, let alone a fight....

@Makatak212  The very first sentence pointed out that CAPCOM announced this, meaning they backed it.

@paulszki  Games based movies are bad in live action. Its either Animated or CGI movies. maybe its just me, i like when the movie character looks like it does int he game and thats hard to do with make up and all. even worse when they make up characters that are not in the game.

@HartPuncher Wow, you must be really mature! Tell me more about life and its challenges!

@blackace For you to bash a classic film while ignoring the Legend of Chun Li shows that you aren't a Street Fighter fan at all.

CrackDima

@tr4newreck  dont look like any street fighter??  They are supposed to look like Ken and Ryu..which they do. Why couldn't they survive the "bullies" in your school? Were they robots?

@pezzott1 Storywise, reminds me of the SF Alpha anime with some deleted scenes added.

@pcty @jark888 I've watched all 12 episodes of them on Xbox 360. You should check it out. I really like it and wish the crews continue the story onward.

korvus

@WolfgarTheQuiet I also think cheesy acting is easier to bear (or is expected) in animation or CGI. When you put real actors in front of a camera with the same dialogues you'd expect in an anime it goes from "semi-entertaining" to "cringe-worthy" in no time..

gawthy

@chev93477 @blackace  Legend of Chun Li was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. The directors would have to try very hard to even get close to how awful it was.
