Strategy First has announced that it will publish Uplink: Hacker Elite. The game was initially self-published by Introversion Software at the end of 2001 through online channels, but it will soon see retail distribution in North America. Strategy First says that the version of Uplink it is publishing has benefited from some changes and fixes but is essentially the same game. Since the game's initial release, Uplink has been opened up to user-created interface skins and user content additions.

"Uplink will show gamers a whole new side of the computer world," says Steve Milburn, director of marketing for Strategy First. "We are very excited to be bringing this unique title to the PC market with Introversion Software."

In Uplink, players assume the role of an Uplink agent working on corporate contracts to hack into rival companies' systems. To gain access to riskier missions and finally reach "133t" hacker status, players will need to acquire more powerful software and hardware and learn the techniques necessary to bypass the security of in-game systems. The game runs on both the Windows and Linux operating systems.
