The creators of the new Netflix show Stranger Things have spoken up to discuss the fate of two main characters from Season 1.

First up is Barbara, Nancy's friend who went missing during a pool party at Steve's house. When we last saw her, she appeared to be dead in the Upside Down. Asked if she might show up in Season 2, which has not been confirmed but is expected, Matt Duffer said you shouldn't count on it.

"I can't see it happening," he said. "But Barb will not be forgotten. We'll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn't seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We're just not spending any screen time on it."

Matt reminded us that Season 1 takes place in a very short amount of time, only six or seven days. If there is to be a second season, you can expect the show to "explore the repercussions of everything that happened," including Barb's disappearance.

The other Stranger Things character who was in rough shape at the end of Season 1 was the villain Dr. Brenner, who is played by Matthew Modine. He was attacked by the monster in the school in the very last episode, but it wasn't clear whether or not he died. Matt said Brenner is likely alive, though he didn't share any details on his well-being or status after the attack.

"I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner… as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me--when the monster jumps on him and we cut away," he explained. "[Brenner] would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there's a possibility of seeing him again."

It appears Stranger Things main character Eleven survived the first season. She was not shown again in the final episode after presumably defeating the monster, though a deposit of Eggos suggested she lives to fight another day. The Duffer brothers did not discuss Eleven's fate in the interview.
