At a private event held in Tokyo over the weekend, Steel Battalion producer Atsushi Inaba said that an online version of Steel Battalion is in development. Unfortunately, no other details were revealed. In Steel Battalion, players will take control of enormous bipedal tank using a rather large controller that will ship with the game. The controller enables players to fire the mech's weapons, control its speed, use its various subsystems, and even spray washer fluid on its viewscreen when it becomes dirty.

The Steel Battalion package, which includes the game and the controller, is scheduled for an August 22 release in Japan with a price tag of 19,800 yen ($160). The North American version of the game is scheduled for release in the fall.
