Steam rolls out 'Daily Deals'

24-hour sale periods for Valve's online storefront begin today with 75 percent off Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Valve's megapopular virtual marketplace Steam has been known to offer deals on games on a fairly regular basis, but now the online storefront will run a deal every single day.

Gamers get a deal each and every day.

Steam--which boasts more than 30 million users and a boss on Forbes' watch list--has rolled out a "Daily Deal" promotion, whereby the online marketplace will slash the price of a game for 24 hours every day.

The deals will be clearly visible on Steam's front page, and the promotion debuts today with 75 percent off military shooter Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Gamers looking to stay in the loop on the day's Daily Deal can follow Steam on Twitter and Facebook.

Steam is not popular because of the games but the PRICE at which you can get them.

Steam is such an incredible service.Other than quality collector's editions, I have no inclination to get boxed copies of PC games anymore.I just wait for a Steam sale and BOOM, have it for a steal of a price.I got Dead Space for 5 bucks this month off Steam, in fact.Considering how great the game is, that was a grand larceny of a steal. Now, if we still lived in an era where games came in big beautiful boxes with thick manuals filled with lore instead of tiny, cheapass Amray keep cases with a tiny manual that's usually just useless, I'd still buy retail most of the time. That is of course no longer the case.

I didn't trust didgital download purchases, but Steam changed my mind years ago with uber-sales. With daily deals, I can see my money going away much faster.

xbox-live can learn from steam....great service and prices!

I personally like to have hard copies of the game... But if they are selling them for 50% - 70% on a regular basis, then I am not going to argue. =)

@c_rakk I know the feeling, one of the best i can remeber was Einhänder for ps1. Those black cd's, manual had lots of things, the boxshot was awesome, i remember the feeling you're talking about. Even though nowadays i buy some releases on physical, since the price is the same, i'm more happy when i'm playing something good, for instance, Amnesia, i doesn't have a physical copy on my country, but MAN, that was worth every penny. And in the end i have to admit, i have a valve on my head and steam coming out of my ears, so i give my support to Steam by being their customer.

makes me lol that this story dated today makes a few specific references to "today," for information that actually was only valid yesterday. Valve announced this yesterday, the promotion debuted yesterday, and Dragon Rising was only on sale yesterday (it's Majesty 2 today). Not complaining, I just love that the age of the internet really helps expose the people that just don't take any time to do their jobs right.

Good thing I've already signed my soul over to Valve. Have they ever made a bad game? Have they ever done anything that hasn't been in the best interest of their fans? Altogether now: NOPE!

How can they do this? Why am I complaining? Proud Steam fanboy.

I'd be more impressed if OFP:DR hadn't already been on sale about a million times already. Why are they trying to push this game so hard?! Give us a new and fresh sale!

OK Valve, you're the best developers ever for PC gamers. You can stop trying to impress us. :P

@c_rakk I enjoy physical media as well since I am a collector. However, I must say Steam is one of the best virtual marketplaces in the industry. Plus, with the consumer-centric Valve behind the service, it's definitely worth your patronage.

Like Steam needs anymore of my money... but hey. if I keep getting deals like the GOTY edition of Borderlands, or Battlefield Bad Company 2 for $5, then I shall suffer through.

@ kenmanius Do you use steam? As long as the game is installed on your computer you can use steam offline, you just have to an internet connection to install a game so steam can do a one time verification on the key. Please know what your talking about before you comment.

Steam does have great deals, but thanks to them you might as well keep a pirated copy of everyting you buy cuz you won't be able to play it on your laptop when you go anywhere that doesn't have internet.

@Raxyman ok dude that is just your opinion :) I think that nothing is better than opening new game from foly unpacking it feeling that plastic smell, your hands are shaking you can't wait, then you read books and manuals while you wait for pc to install the game... nothing better :D I'm ready to pay 10$ more just for that feeling! :D

I have a love hate relationship with Steam. First, I love that they get the point that digital distribution needs sales, just like boxes have (and price goes down over time). Second, I love the fact they keep things changing and I want to see what is new every so often. But Third, I hate them for using up all my money on these deals. Impulse buying really hurts when it is your hobby and these deals are so amazing...

@DanielL5583 they accept visa gift card (must say that they can be used for online transactions on the packaging) i sue this method all the time.. just make sure you treat them as a standard visa

@c_rakk I ain't judging you, but physical copies are more costly and they can break or malfunction. I used to say that myself, but after using steam a little i fell much more confortable.

tried it wasn't too happy STEAM takes your money and doesn't have enough keys to give. STEAM should lock out purchases or make a note on the product page, keys sold out.

What about credit codes for those who can't/don't want to use a credit card on Steam? I would prefer it if I could buy stuff with credit redeemed from prepaid cards.
