Steam 2014 Holiday Sale has begun, introduces snow globe trading

Valve's Steam holiday sale starts today and allows you to craft exclusive in-game items for snow globes you collect.

The annual Steam Holiday sale kicks off today with deep discounts on games across the digital PC store.

Like we say with every Steam sale, while you might think one of the standard discounts sounds like a good deal, it's always best to hold out for Flash Sales and Daily Deals.

This year also introduces Snow Globe trading, a collectible that allows you to craft exclusive in-game items for free-to-play games like Dota 2 and Path of Exile. You can earn Snow Globe cards by making purchases on the store, by voting in the Community's Choice sale, or just by trading for or buying them.

Discounts will update continuously throughout the sale, but a few highlights from the initial offering include:

Games are very expensive where I live and I don't have a credit card, I was hoping that by now circumstances would allow me to get all the games I've been waiting to play on sale. Damn, no luck.

Anybody here feeling generous this Xmas and wants to PM me a Bioshock Infinite code? No ? It was worth a shot.

It's mind boggling to even see someone consider a sale as a problem. Sales are beneficial not detrimental

Steam has Darkfall Unholy Wars with 66% off ($13) with 30 days game play.  The game is very different and worth trying with this low risk investment. If you haven't heard about Darkfall see my blog for tons of video http://dfuwtrial.blogspot.com/

There is nothing more to buy on STEAM, Thanks to the consistend Steam sales I bought most of the AAA titles. The games are not produced fast enough, there is nothing mroe to buy so my STEAM sale excitement is wearing off at the increased speed. I might buy a Meatboy though...and FEZ....and some more Indie games. Damm you STEAM dammm you for being so good !

Told myself I can't really afford it this year, but then see FTL for $3.39. Steam Holiday Sales are almost as bad as crack.

I have $50 saved up for this. If you don't think that can get you a lot then you know nothing about the steam holiday sale. I wouldn't be even a little surprised if my library extends by 10 games before the sale is over.

Put Skyrim back to $20 and I'll buy it.  I missed it the first time around.  I did get Arkham Origins for $20

I wonder what effect the fact that a game will be on sale at a huge discount on steam 6 months later has on initial sales.

It's not fair, some of these games are more expensive for me.

I wanted Bioshock Infinite for $10, but I have to pay $19.99 . :'(

the one problem with the steam sales is the lack of great new content. because these sales come around fairly often, most of the awesome games have been purchased already.  The one game im waiting for is a Kingdom of Amulur sale.

Just old games, i have everything. Steam sales are a big waste of time.

Valve should to add a trade-in program to Steam. I have too many games I'll never play, and not enough money to buy more

im kinda pissed off really i don't like this kind of gimmick sale they hold i want something more like the coal sale from 2 years ago, the sale itself is not the problem i love the discounts and the savings that can be made but there is just such little point to making free ingame stuff. 2 years ago in the coal sale people could get free games discounts and everything, it really made you get into the sale when you know you could get skyrim at say 85% off (back 2 years ago) i got left for dead and left for dead 2 portal 1 and 2 killing floor beta + game and counter strike free. that was an amazing sale. why can't vale repeat it again :c

I usually vote for games and that gives you snow globes, but I'm otherwise uninterested in actively taking advantage of this feature. I see some games there that I might want, but they're still too expensive and those on my wishlist are only discounted by 50 % at most so that's a no-go. Then there are those moments where you see a game and think "oooh, that's a great deal for a great game" and then realize you already have it.

I dare Steam to shake me out of my indifference.

Boo they never added achievements & trading to the original Bioshock :P

With those featured discounts it's like Gamespot is trying to make the sale look bad. There's way better games and deals come on.

Think I've bought about 12 games already. Cost me around 40 euros. Love these holiday sales. Will definitely have enough to do this christmas.

@DaianThe games are very expensive EVEN if we don't live in your country. I think is absurd on PSNetwork, for example, I have to pay 60$ for a downloadable game. Once they said a game had a high cost due to the package and booklet, but that was just an excuse; in any case, I would prefer to pay 60$ for a game, but I WANT the case, booklet and the complete package. I'm a collector of games, I'm not a 'throwaway' player. I like to play my favorite games from time to time, is like a movie collections, you want to see that movie more and more times.

@Daian I don't have a Credit Card either.  Go to a local store & get a Master Card / Visa Gift card, I Use that. You'll need to spend a minute registering it before using it.  take screen shots of what you put for answers, & information as everything needs to be EXACT when you type it in.  ( or a steam card from a video game store like EB games)

He probably means the Steam gift cards you can buy at retail stores.

@Jasurim get the trilogy for the same price. Like the same price literally.

Toysoldier34
Toysoldier34

@Jasurim If they aren't super expensive look into buying Team Fortress 2 keys. People trade games for them and in many locations where the local price of games are high people are able to exchange keys for the games and bring the costs down.

It may be a lot more work but you should be able to still get the game for closer to $10-$15.

Or you mention that some games are still the same price as other regions so you can look into buying giftable versions of the games that are less and look to trade them with others.

@Diegoctba umm -75% off is a waste of time? hmmm your post is the dumbest thing I've read since the redesign of this website.

@aborgraffitiGamespot isn't here to show off everything that the sale offers or to appeal to everyone's subjective tastes. Three games isn't very much, but the sale is only one click away if you want to see more.

Jasurim

@jessie82 @Jasurim Yeah so I've noticed.  It's weird though because some games are the same price...guess they pick choose lol.
