State of Decay shifts over 500,000 copies

Microsoft hails open-world zombie survival game as "the fastest-selling original game" on Xbox Live Arcade.

Open-world zombie survival title State of Decay has sold over 500,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade since its release two weeks ago, Microsoft has said.

Microsoft adds that State of Decay has become "the fastest-selling original game" on XBLA.

Jeff Strain, founder of developer Undead Labs, added that the PC version of State of Decay will be coming to Steam and that the game will be getting its own sandbox mode. "I can tell you we're working on a sandbox mode designed to be a pure survival simulation," he said.

"Beyond that," added Strain, "all I can say is we pay very close attention to what fans of the game are asking for, and their needs will largely guide our development priorities, so stay tuned."

After a broken update previously caused problems, Seattle-based Undead Labs is currently working on State of Decay's second title update, which should shortly be sent off to Microsoft for certification.

Just picked it up for my 360. It is a very addicting game. The story so far is excellent.

1% of the gaming population: "I'm so OVER Zombies. They are used too often in games now!"

The other 99%: "Braaaiiiinnnnnnsss"

I bet Tom McShea will give this a 10 just to spite Sony fans.

I am so glad this game is doing this well.

I bought it on release day and couldn't be more happier. Even with it's problems (mainly frame rate issues and some screen tearing) it's still a blast to play. Probably one of the most fun "Survival" zombie games out there, they whole base building, scavenging for supplies, npc characters you have to help, it's very well done.

They said if this game was a success that they were going to start on their next game, which is an mmo-style zombie survival game, and I can't wait for that.

I can't believe half a million copies have been shifted.

as long as it does not need GFWL to run on PC ill take a look at it.

Game is a TON of fun. Far from perfect (Has FPS issues and sometimes ai get stuck on things like chairs or stairs), but overall the good far outweigh the bad.

Can't wait for these devs next game that will be like a cross fo this mixed with DayZ.

This game and The Last Of Us got me to dust off my consoles again finally hehe.

Has Multiplayer been confirmed as a future update?  Last I heard it was only a rumor.

Love the game even with all those stupid bugs <3

3 things.

1.)  Where is the gamespot review?

2.) Hort sh*t 500K is awesome for a startup dev.

3.) These are the kind of indies we will be getting on X1

Coming to Steam? Coming to my Steam game collection soon then.

this makes me very happy. Im assuming this means that there will be another game in the series, if they make the same game but with a different map, less bugs, more variety in missions, and most importantly coop it will be a 9/10

This is really a unique game for the 360. I am really enjoying it. I am glad it's getting good recognition. I just hope they patch in a co op mode.

Shifts 500,000 copies? You're on a roll, aren't you?

If "MS hates indies" means we get stuff like this but lose all those NES/MS Paint indie games, sign me up.

This is the best exclusive Microsoft have had in a very long time I think. Looking forward to the sandbox mode. My only gripe is that 'radio-girl's' brother is forever going missing and needing rescuing. Like ALL the time. If it happens again I'm tempted to leave him to the Zombies.

And yet Gamespot still hasn't reviewed this game...

Love this game. The only game I can think of where Permadeath actually highlights the game in a way that just works. Sure, all I do is just do is turn off the system when death is imminent, but one day Marcus will die to be replaced.

This is one of those games that SCREAM multiplayer. Why is it that nearly every zombie game is singleplayer? The apocalypse gets lonely, doncha know?

@hadlee73 its Open World Survival horror its not a zombie game.

Zombie's Ate my Neighbors, is a zombie game.

@N4o7A PC version in early release atm, with just controller supprt, but I imagine, it'll have better load times, among other things...

It means to transfer...lol

It's because it's a digital release...So, it doesn't ship games; they shift them.

@GOGOGOGURTI *think* we have a review on the way. E3 was pretty all-encompassing last week, so we didn't have any time. Aaron Sampson and I did a Now Playing live stream when it came out though!

@GOGOGOGURT you think 500k in just a short time would warrant a video review on one of the major sites

@Fursnake Same here. My 360 is hooked to an old SDTV, so I can't read any of the text of this game on there. My computer monitor is much nicer though, and it's just one more game to add to my collection. I will pick it up if I remember.

@Brotelho Lol I do the same thing. Can't let Maya get torn to bits by a bunch of zombies.

@joke_man yep I'm aware of that. My point is this isn't really important news.

@Sam_021 @NormaDean I'd love that!  Is it officially confirmed though?  I've only read about it via the commetnts section.

@anvilone @TheKemosabe It looks pretty obvious Undead Labs originally intended it to be co-op.  I have vague memories of an article pointing out they were forced to drop the feature due to needing to get the game finished/released so they could put food on the table. It'd be pretty cool if they left enough of the original co-op code intact to allow for it to be added with DLC, but I'm guessing that's a feature we will only see in a sequel.

@blackothh @The-Neon-Seal

1) When people refer to exclusives, they think console exclusives--so ya, it's exclusive.

2) Even if item 1 isn't true, 99% of all PC games run on Windows, which is owned by MS; thus, the game is still an MS exclusive.

Thus, either way you look at it, you're wrong.  It's a console exclusive and an MS exclusive...

Have you ever heard anyone say Final Fantasy games aren't exclusives because many of them were/are available on the PC??? No...Just, no...

The-Neon-Seal
The-Neon-Seal

@malokevi @Brotelho The way Maya died for me was annoying. She was my main character and I was playing as somebody else when it happened. Didn't even see it happen. Just got a message saying the priest turned and killed her plus another survivor before anybody could stop him.

joke_man

@petez34 @joke_man

Who said it was important news?  It's just an update on the game's status on a game website...

starcrafthenry

@grove12345 Lol. I appreciate the humor, but I am sincerely trying to figure out how doing that would be performing the world a service. I don't play online, and actually, I rarely play it all. I usually just check out demos for new games that aren't available on my PC.
