Star Wars: The Old Republic to get a 2.0 update of 'Scum and Villainy'

Game Update 2.0 to bring level cap up to 55 and introduce new skills for advanced classes.

by

BioWare and EA have announced that the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic will soon launch a new patch. Game Update 2.0 is already live on the game's public test servers.

The patch’s main features include a level cap raise to 55, a new operation called "Scum and Villainy," new abilities and skill trees for all 16 advanced classes, and new level 55 hard mode flashpoints like Hammer Station, Athiss, and Mandalorian Raiders. High-level players can also get access to new gear during raids in this new patch.

There is no set date for when the update will be available for all players. For more notes and information, visit the official site for the game.

They are adding a whole chapter to the story with this update. I am all in favor of this. If you go free to play buy the expansion and see this amazing role playing game continue in story. You don't have to do raids to have fun and play this games. 8 separate story-lines to play. It will take you awhile to get through them all and the voice acting is amazing. However gear grinding should never be your main focus in a game. This game isn't meant to be played for only having one character. I have played 5 of the stories all the way through and its phenomenal. Plus the story mode operations are fun too and flash points have great voice acting and mechanics. I haven't even played any of the imp side ones yet, but im looking forward to it.

Actually, SW:ToR is not as bad as many say.  Does the game need a few tweaks?  Absolutely.  Does it need to group existing players together who are spread out over a few too many servers?  Maybe.  But is it a bad game?  Heck, no.  The class stories are very strong for an MMO; MMOs often have a generic storyline that focuses on no one in particular.  The PvP is pretty good too.  It is not "WoW" perfect.  But still good.

This "news" is a few weeks old. I've been testing 2.0 for over a week. Bioware just add's more grinding and cash grabs...and less fun....with every update.

Recent changes will really change the combat of SWTOR, i think the game is really moving into a good direction. Maybe the beta is over :)

Since the failure of SWTOR may also be bad news for any future KOTOR, I hope it does well. I hope it doesn't become a raid->gear->same raid game like EA's TSW. That was my first exposure to a MMO where end game consisted mainly of the gear grind circle. So very boring. Hard imagine any game nowadays succeeding long term on that formula .

like i said Haters will hate no matter what anyone says  and no game will be good enough  because they will not be in dev for 7 to 8 years.there are still hundreds of thousands that are playing Swtor we have our own community  and we are proud to be part of it since a lot more great things are coming to swtor like the super secret space project and more. So no matter what anyone says SWTOR IS HERE TO STAY. get over it all..

whose idea was it to make the game.

Why won't they make more playable species with bigger variety then yellow, red and blue humans with different eye colors.

If they also had fewer planets but bigger zones they would feel more connected and you wouldn't feel so alone all the time, each planet could've been more like a continent in WoW, instead they decided to make each planet like a zone meaning you have to go through tedious loading whenever you leave it, which means most of the time.

Rest of the game was decent, mostly the end game was boring and easy but I'm not going to go in to much detail because it has been done to death.  This game needs more then just a new raid and 2 or 3 operations in order to draw in old retired players to be honest.

Most likely the last update this will get.  I reinstalled last week and couldn't take more than 20 min before the uninstall was initiated.

Why don't they make a new KOTOR? They are just flogging a dead horse.

I thought the game was "eh" but the cartel market and F2P came out, it just made it look like crap. I just can't get into the game.

I think the industry and the public would be warmer to this if Bioware didnt think we all live in 1998. Does it play on my consoles? um, no. Does any of it play on an iPad? um, no. Does any of it play in my quad i7 iMac, bearing in mind elder scrolls online will and WOW does? um.....not so much?

So the only real thing they have to offer is yet more recycled Flashpoints? Yeah I'm glad I quit.

Zzzzzzz. I must have wasted about 60 hours of my life on this game, and I sat there bored throughout 80% of it (all of it except for the main stories). I only continued because my friend loves it and bugs me to play.

You know what it really needs? Less worthless fighting, and less filler side quests. You're fighting enemies every 2 steps on your way to complete utterly dull side quests. Stop expanding the game and fix what you already have, Bioware.

I'm playing this in a group with my brother...a few hours every day...

And I have a level 40 character and I still enjoy the main story line and some of the more expanded quests. So all this F2P is unplayable is pretty much bullshit. You don't need more than 2 quickslot bars to enjoy the game...at least for me it isn't necessary

highlanderjimd
highlanderjimd

did they ever fix this game? ie add endgame?

also the PvP. and did they ever enable the proper high res textures that WERE IN THE CUNTING BETA THEN REMOVED FOR FULL RELEASE.

Me personally think all the haters need to find something else to hate about. this game is doing very well and a lot of people still play it. f2p is just right because you get the majority of the game free that's thousands of free hours of story and that's what this game does best. I sick and Tired of all  the people saying its a wow clone and all that jazz .I was in beta for wow and didn't like it think it was a cartoon y piece of crap.but my brother played and he enjoyed it so each have there own opinion. The problem is no MMo will live up to WOW because of one thing and one thing only. TIME!!! It has has so many patches and expansions that no matter what game you play it will feel un finished because of so much time WOW had to fix all its problems and add so much to the game.did you know what WOW was released it was so bad the lag no one could get on for weeks at a time because the lag was so bad.Wow is not a god ol mighty game that everyone thinks. Now back to Swtor "its a very well done game and they improve on it each patch with the f2p player can play what they want and not do anything else but can do more if they choose and buy time to run end game and if they like it they can sub its all the matter of what you see.I do think the graphics could be better but still gets across as good to most games out there look very bad.So what i think everyone should do is chill out on the swtor  because no game will live up to WOW no game will or ever will if they do it will be in dev for 8 years....

Please implement a better free to play model and maybe more people would be positive about the game.

Maybe Free To Play but more like Pay to actually do anything. I loved this game when i subbed but its the worse F2P in existence.

Now all the game needs is a community of people like you rather than the WoW rejects and maybe people would stop constantly complaining and actually have fun and create a fun environment in the game.

Kudos to your sir,

@Ceclor
The only thing I ever disliked about the game was the complaint community. I played Marauder from Beta as my main, was always a top PvP player and top team player for my Guild in Warzone, always using Anihilation spec whilst all the while people were complaining the class was not competative, which was just outright wrong, the community was just playing it wrong...... later once everyone realised the class got nurfed and eventually the specs changed once everyone realised it had the highest solo dps and best survival.

Sometimes it is not even the games fault, just the players who can never be pleased, which gives the whole thing a bad name and puts many off from trying or even carreying on

@Unfallen_Satan
Imagine ToR without the story content and ALOT MORE AND HARDER gear grinding cycles, then you have every other mmo ever

Hakkology
Hakkology

@thebwolf37 Exactly the game is damn fun i'll tell you that ! In fact, as someone who has played and saw all the new MMO's out there and after watching the new pandaland trailer ( I was bored, it never happened with Blizzard ) i can already tell SWTOR is one of the best MMO's with its "pve" content.

@Tripwolf WTF is your problem with GW 2? Are you mad it did not flop? Fking hater go play your game of choice. I mean, here is an article about a new update for SWTOR but a random web troll hurr durr GW 2...

@Bhemont
The games does feel forever alone 1-50, then the rest of the time your just huddling on the station with other people waiting for operations or warzones

Hakkology

@CP2077 They are not dead, they are keeping a stable amount of people playing, all the haters left and the game actually became a playable environment.

Bhemont
Bhemont

@CP2077 The horse is dead CP2077 just let it go please.  I mean honestly, if they made another KoTOR it would mean collaboration with Lucas Arts.  I'm guessing BioWare wants to be independent, probably for more profit, hence why they made their own sci fi IP Mass Effect series, same thing with Baldurs Gate, they made Dragon Age.  They won't make KoTOR, this was supposed to be it and more.  The only way we'll ever be able to see a sequel is if a company will decide to do it through kickstarter.

Crypt_mx
Crypt_mx

@CP2077 Because TOR is making them more money? A company doesn't keep supporting something that has no players, they are obviously pleasing EA with their cash income.

Yamakoichi
Yamakoichi

@legolas506
The F2P system is horrible, really limits you and creates whole waves of terrible players for when they do eventually start paying at 50, which means they never learned the class, gear system, how to manage their skills or even how to work in a party........

That aside I did find the game very fun, until all the top guilds just unformed because there was nothing left to do...... hopefully something big will pull everyone back and keep them playing rather than a quick, oh thats cool *unsubscribes again* like the last few updates for me :/

DarkSaber2k

@tavyhome I think you'll find they took it from the same place you took your guild name from.

@highlanderjimd so I take it you never got to 50 then? as your asking if they ever added end game which was there from launch

thebwolf37
thebwolf37

@highlanderjimd  yes they have 6 operations for end game and added more flashpoints and harde modes for all and yes they fixed alot even re did ilum

Unfallen_Satan
Unfallen_Satan

@Yamakoichi @Unfallen_Satan Not my experience. Gear grind was/is not a big part of GW2, EVE, SWG, or Runescape. If we take a step further and include non-RPG MMO, gear grind becomes even more obscure. You may be thinking of old school MMORPGs up to and including WoW or Asian F2P MMORPGs which are too numerous to name and that depends on item grind to drive microtransactions. With the exception of WoW, these largely similar games are hardly even mentioned publically anymore. They are the past.

The problem with SWTOR maybe they thought exact what you think now, adding gear grind to their tried and true storytelling would lead to a success story. That didn't happen.

Hakkology
Hakkology

@teh_pwnager @Tripwolf Let me tell you wtf was wrong with GW2. I grew tired of leveling a character to level 80 with 9 skills. GW had it right, max level was 20 but GW2 sucked and it was boring to do the same rotation over and over and over and over again !

Yamakoichi
Yamakoichi

@Wolfgang0210 @DarkSaber2k
Hurray more easy mode gear grinding that has no real value....

Atleast the story content is normally top quality, just nothing to keep people playing once you done it as it is very easy to get end game gear then nothing to do with it

Unfallen_Satan
Unfallen_Satan

@Yamakoichi SWTOR is not without redeeming gameplay qualities. Ilum and the option to PvP everywhere were poorly actualized in the beginning but I hear that Ilum is being revamped. With bigger servers, RPlayers may make always on PvP more viable though high level players still need incentive to go to low level planets. At some point they may add other emergent gameplay features. Or perhaps they will build the space combat into something a little more like EVE and less like Rebel Assault from a couple decades ago.

It's why I commented in the first place. There is enough material in TOR games for a truly great MMO, instead of a "let's make KOTOR 3 but add some traditional MMO features and hope they work (but really don't)" game.

teh_pwnager
teh_pwnager

@Hakkology I leveled a char with 30 skills plus another combination of 5 which constantly changed...except the elite...i sticked with that one. The game encourages a variable stile of play. You can play with the same 1 skill all game but it is not recommended. If you could not detach from old style gameplay you missed some funny things. Why do I say this? Look at the forums. Except some real problems the majority of complains about the game are why is not like WoW. I want vertical grind, i want raids, i want trinity, i want contested zones, i want bla bla bla bla. People are in 2 categories for this game: the ones who plays it and see it will be the benchmark for MMO's from now on and the ones that fit the oldstyle gameplay and this one does not appeal to them.
