A "Force-back."

This story contains Force Awakens spoilers

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams has discussed one of the scenes that was cut from the film, and it involved a fight sequence between two stars of the original trilogy.

When Rey discovers Luke Skywalker's lightsaber at Maz Kanata's castle, the moment she touches it, she has a vision of the past that Abrams refers to as a "Force-back." This did happen in the movie, but it could have been different.

"There were many iterations of this; in one, from [the] Cloud City corridor, she looked down and saw Vader fighting Luke, which we ended up cutting," he said (via IGN). "We wanted it to be a more personal story; something that she couldn't comprehend that was overwhelming to her, frightening to her."

This comment comes from the upcoming 3D Blu-ray/DVD version of The Force Awakens that comes out in November. You can hear Abrams talk about this sequence in the video above, starting at 1:55.

The 3D Blu-ray/DVD version of The Force Awakens also includes commentary from Abrams about a particularly memorable scene between Kylo Ren and Han Solo. It also contains a deleted scene that shows Chewbacca ripping an alien's arm off. It comes out on November 15.
