Star Wars: Rey Actress Teases When We Will Learn Who Her Parents Are

Answers might come in 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII, Daisy Ridley says.

Star Wars Episode VIII may reveal the identity of Rey's parents, actress Daisy Ridley suggested in a new interview. Speaking to Vulture (via GamesRadar), Ridley was asked if Rey may be related to Obi-Wan Kenobi. "We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question." Episode VIII comes out in December 2017.

Vulture also asked Ridley if Rey could be the daughter of Jyn Erso, the rebel hero of this year's Star Wars: Rogue One. That doesn't seem very likely, however, due to the overall timeline of the story.

"I mean, I think historically it wouldn't work, because she is … Darth Vader is there … so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma," she said, speculating on the subject. "I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away."

This isn't the first time Ridley has talked about the possibility of who Rey's parents are. In April she confirmed that she knows Rey's parentage, but it doesn't sound like Erso is her mom.

"I'm not being funny you guys, but just because she's white and got brown hair… it doesn't mean she's my mom," she said about Erso.

"I think the amazing thing about Episode VII is that Finn and Rey don't come from anywhere and they find a place," she said. "To me, it's funny that people think [Rey's lineage] is so important, because I guess it is. But I don't really think it is because regardless of where you come from, where you go is the thing...you're moving forward, and you can make a family; you can find people who you love.

"And so I think the progression Rey is making is and the people she's meeting and the relationships she's making now are kind of more important than where she comes from. But that's just me."

Filming is now wrapped up on Episode VIII. Next up for Star Wars is Rogue One. Ridley said she is pretty amped to see the movie.

"I am just excited to see how it is, because I have heard it is so so different, and its own thing," she explained. "I have no idea what happens--I know the ending, but I have no idea really what happens in it."

Rogue One opens on December 16. Felicity Jones stars as Jyn Erso, with a cast that also includes Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen. The film is directed by Godzilla's Gareth Edwards.
