There may be no real cross-media tie-in to speak of, but Nintendo has decided that the time is right to unleash a whole host of Star Wars content on the Wii's Virtual Console. Beginning today, gamers can download Super Star Wars for 800 Wii points, or $8, with Check Mii Out Channel and Everybody Votes Channel contests also running this week. Nintendo expects to release the subsequent two action titles in the Super Nintendo series, Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, later this month.

Nintendo also has two original games coming to its WiiWare channel this week. Over the Top Games side-scrolling puzzle-shooter NyzQuest: Kindred Spirits is available for 1,000 Wii points ($10) and sees the angelic Nyx platforming her way through a variety of ancient Grecian levels to rescue her fallen friend, Icarus. NyzQuest: Kindred Spirits supports play for up to two.

Nintendo's Rock N' Roll Climber is the second WiiWare release for the week, and it's available for 800 Wii points, or $8. The single-player game mimics actual rock climbing using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and it also supports the Wii Balance Board.

On the DSiWare store, handheld gamers can pick up Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters for 800 points. An extension of Nintendo's popular Brain Age franchise, Arts & Letters includes learning-themed minigame challenges, such as Word Attack, Reading Aloud, and Piano Player.

Prepare for frustration lol. Even with Game Genie those three Star Wars SNES games were insanely hard.

Super Star Wars = Super Awesome! Looks like the VC still had a new hope after all.

@hatieshorrer, BtmnHatesRbn Youre right...had to go back and do my homework. I have Rogue Squadron 2 & 3 as GC discs so assumed the first was also a GC title. Still, do you really think Nintendo is gonna start releasing GC games even if they could compress them? With so many N64, SNES, TG16, etc games they have yet to release on the VC I just dont see it before the Wii's lifecycle is over.

makes me wish lucasarts would put all the jedi knight games into one collection for the PC and make sure they work with vista

Return of the Jedi is a WAY better SNES game. I implore you to wait for that one.

@yman173 Oh, just give Nintendo's compression experts some time and those guys will find a way to compress one GameCube disc into, I'm guessing, 64 MB. This is based on the heavy compression already used by both the Neo-Geo, WiiWare and TurboGrafx-CD games out now.

Shadows of the empire anyone?

@yman173 Rogue Squadron (2) is a gamecube game the original Rogue Squadron is a N64 game.

Everyone asking for Rogue Squadron...thats a GameCube game, folks. You dont need to wait for a download. Go to Ebay and pick it up for a couple of bucks there. I dont think theyll ever make any of the GC titles downloadable...theyre too big.

I still have Super Empire Strikes Back, what a great game. I used to have so much trouble getting anywhere and I would be excited to get to cloud city. Yey for semi 3D snow speeder segment.

When LucasArts announced that they were going to make an announcement today about their back catalog, I was hoping that they were releasing more PC games for download on Steam and DD. I really want KOTOR and the Jedi Knight games available. But I am glad that LA is finally showing the Wii some love. Hopefully some of the N64 Star Wars games will make it to the Wii too!

I was actually wondering if we'd ever see these games, since as far as I know Nintendo hasn't really released anything other than original game properties. As for me, I had to download this for the nostalgia. =)

seriously think a lot of these re-released games are expensive. cool to bring back that nostalgia feeling but some don't even stand the test of time to cost that much.

I hope this will also lead to the release of the N64 game Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadren it would be nice to finally see a N64 VC title that wasnt made by Nintendo.
