Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic hits iPad

BioWare's 2003 role-playing game now available on iPad for $10 thanks to port from Aspyr Media.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is now available to download for the iPad, Mac game developer and publisher Aspyr Media announced today. The game's mobile debut comes as the acclaimed role-playing game celebrates in tenth anniversary later this year.

"Being able to bring one of the most beloved Star Wars games to iPad for such a momentous event is an incredible honor," said Aspyr's vice president of publishing Elizabeth Howard in a statement. "We have a long history at Aspyr of bringing the best games to Apple platforms, and as bona fide fans of the original release, we've worked to ensure that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for iPad lives up to its prodigious reputation."

Aspyr Media is no stranger to bringing games to Apple platforms. The company has ported various high-profile titles to Mac, including Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and BioShock Infinite, among others.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is available today through iTunes for $10. The game brings the "full experience" to the iPad, as well as user interface tweaks for the touch-screen.

The game is compatible only with the iPad 2 or newer models running iOS 6 or newer. The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic file size is 1.98 GB.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was originally developed by BioWare. It launched for Xbox and PC in November 2003. For more, check out GameSpot's review.

Why pay $10 for KOTOR for iPAD when you get KOTOR Collection for PC for $17.

Yay! I was trying to play KoToR on iPad through some of the VNC apps, but the controls made it impossible. I have to check out the new controls before trying this, but the fact that it exists is GREAT! Thanks Aspyr!!

I had lost my data a few times, and I had to start this game over again.  I just finished the game about forty minutes ago.  It is still one of the best rpg games I have ever played as well as a great Star Wars game.  Even though it is an old game, it is still a lot of fun.  It is nice to see a game like this on the iPad for people that never got to play it.

Couldn't stand the combat in this game. It's third person action, but turn-based. What? Hated having to pause every time an enemy appeared instead of just being able to blast stuff with stats. Oh well, we can't all be Borderlands 2

I remember how this game blew me away back when I first played it :) Some of the starwars aliens spoke in alien language just like in the movies! Fantastic storyline also.

I applaud Aspyr. They've really done a lot to port/re-publish good games to time and places where they didn't exist before.

This should've been released on the Wii U with the Touch screen emulating macro buttons...Cant believe they'd put such an incredible classic game on iShit

Even though I own the game on the original Xbox and PC, I still picked this up today. Love that game.

I'm just glad this got released back when EA didn't have Bioware by the balls. It would have been an entirely different game if it was. This reminds me, I still need to finish my dark side playthrough.

Such a classic game, as close to perfection as you can get. If i had an iPad I would buy it in a second.

I hope we get an Android version.  I have the game on my PC, but wouldn't mind also having it on my tablet.

I already have it on my mac . I wish my old disks worked so I could get full HD quality but oh well. I got it on steam for cheap. If I had an ipad 2 I'd get this game but I don't. I only have an OG ipad.

@Vidpci The MMO was really good, the problem is it is an MMO..... I agree that a KoToR 3 is very much needed

@tomservo51 Maybe not KOTOR 3, but EA is gonna make the best of its huge deal for SW games. Content-wise, one of them is bound to be good.

bayernfan

@tomservo51 It is too late because Bioware now belongs to EA and the resulting game will be far from what fans would expect.

@tomservo51  that boat has sailed the old republic MMO is kotor 3 but set 300 years on there is no way to make kotor 3. either you make it based on the book (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan) which i have read. set after kotor 2 or make it after starwars the old republic MMO which keeps been added to.

I'd even buy an Xbone if it were the only way to play it.

@darkgod656  No1 here is a fanboy. I simply said this great classic game should've gone to an actual system instead of a tablet mainly because a game system would be more enjoyable to experience it...the only pro this game has on a tablet is that you;ll be able to take a shit with it

PosiTVEMinD355
PosiTVEMinD355

@Prats1993 @PosiTVEMinD355 hehe you apple tools crack me up. Its true, this game should go to an actual game system considering how shitty it looks on the ipad plus the wii u gamepad actually has buttons, something the ipad knows nothing about, shit you cant even connect a ps3 or wii remote to that limited pos tech. Meanwhile android does it freely so long as you get the remote pair app, which I also like to point out, that apple does not provide via appstore unless you jailbreak it. The funny thing is I actually own an ipad and even I know it sucks for games. I use my ipad for anything work or school related and it comes in handy. Do I use it for gaming?

Fuck NO!  I have a 3DS, PSV, and my home consoles for that. I prefer quality games...enjoy your bland and pointless temple run

@07wintert

there is an entire 300 gap they could use for Kotor 3....... or they could do it following the events of the the MMO, neither would be hard.

I prefer the RPGs to the MMOs because I do not have the time for them nor 7 good players to make a competitive team with ¬_¬

Unfallen_Satan
Unfallen_Satan

@07wintert Though I agree that KOTOR 3 is not likely in the near future, I don't believe either the novel or SWTOR is an obstacle. KOTOR 2 only had a cursory relationship to 1, the Old Republic is a big universe with possibilities well beyond what has already been covered. Since I actually don't want 3 to have anything to do with Revan, who is dead anyway, killing that plot line is a positive sign for me.

PosiTVEMinD355
PosiTVEMinD355

@streamline @PosiTVEMinD355 haha, im not a fanboy nor a hater in any way, I simply call it like I see it.  You mad bro? like I said before I OWN an ipad.  the only difference between us is that I actually admit the truth that ipad sucks for gaming, simple as that. And as for answering your question, Yes I prefer ushit over iShit.  Why?  Because at least my Ushit can take sd cards and actually has usb ports

@PosiTVEMinD355 omg! An apple hater

LOL. Why would an Apple fanboy call Apple's stuff "iShit"? Your hatred of Apple is so great that you don't realize I was putting down the U and now you.

@Yamakoichi @Unfallen_Satan @07wintert Is that some kind of new Jedi escape trick? I haven't read in SW extended universe novels, so I am unfamiliar with possible techniques. I assumed he became what Obi-wan became when Darth Vader struck him with his lightsabre, which is "dead" in my mind.

Unfallen_Satan
Unfallen_Satan

@07wintert I certainly don't want a continuation of KOTOR 2. More important than the PC killed in the novel is that Keira is killed in the game. I saw her as the heart of the game, and her story is finished.

I don't know if Revan will make a come back later; Jedi has the regretable habit of not going away even after death. I don't think that's important. From what I saw first hand in the game and then in the news, SWTOR has reached only a fraction of KOTOR fans. Any extension to SWTOR, if the latest Hutt episode is any indication, isn't even in the spirit of KOTOR. Those two games are standalone stories each with its own themes and joined by similar gameplay and narrative mechanics, quite distinct from SWTOR, which is actually more similar to ME. BioWare may try to sell SWTOR to more KOTOR fans, but they will fail. EA is shrewd, it will take advantage of additional KOTOR as long as the loss from SWTOR isn't greater.

07wintert
07wintert

 @Unfallen_Satan @07wintert

i dont know the main character in kotor 2 is killed off in the book at the end. so you would have a new character obviously and 300 years to play with. but with the old republic still going its not going to happen.

and Revan is not dead for two reasons it would be stupid to kill him off for bioware. as his popularity is big and means much money can be generated . as well as in the old republic the seen where you battle him no one dies like that and pointless to bring him back for the MMO just to kill him off. it is very possible he could be added to the MMO in a expansion in the future if the MMO survives.
