The upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film will finally show how the smuggler won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian. This is according to The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit, who says on Twitter that a pair of sources told him that this would be one of the plot points in the 2018 film.

Star Wars fans had already presumed this would be part of the film's story, considering his ownership of the iconic spaceship is a key part of the Solo character.

According to Star Wars fiction, Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Calrissian in the fictional card game Sabacc. This has never been depicted in a Star Wars movie, but it appears that's going to change with the upcoming film. This would likely be only one of the plot points of the film.

The Han Solo movie explores the character's formative years; he will be played by Hail, Caeser! and Stoker actor Alden Ehrenreich. Lucasfilm recently confirmed that Donald Glover will play Calrissian. The untitled movie is helmed by 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Production is expected to begin in January 2017; the story was written by Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon.

The next Star Wars film is December's spinoff Rogue One, which tells the story of a group of rebels attempting to steal the plans to the Death Star. In other Star Wars news, Rey actress Daisy Ridley has teased that 2017's Episode VIII may reveal who the character's parents are.
