LucasArts Entertainment has unveiled its upcoming real-time strategy game, Star Wars Galactic Battleground. The game will be built on Ensemble Studios' proprietary game engine, which was used in Age of Empires II. Players will assume control of one of several civilizations vying for control of the galaxy. Combat will take place both in the air and on the ground, and it will take place in a variety of locations, such as on interstellar asteroids and in submerged cities. Along with its single-player campaigns, Star Wars Galactic Battleground will feature multiplayer support. A scenario editor will also be included in the game.
The game will feature six main factions: the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance, the Wookiees, the Gungans, the Royal Naboo, and the Trade Federation. It will include more than 300 different units and structures. Some of the combat units will include bounty hunters, Jedi Knights, stormtroopers, X-wings, AT-ATs, snowspeeders, AT-STs, Wookiee Kas tanks, and droids.
In addition to commanding their units in battles, players will oversee the development of new technologies such as Wookiee ingenuity, advanced Gungan biotechnology, and Jedi stamina. New units and other features will become available to players with more-advanced technology.
