[UPDATE] EA has confirmed that Outer Rim will come with four maps, not two. The two locations (Sullust and Tatooine) will each have two maps for a total of four.

The original story is below.

Ahead of its launch this month, Electronic Arts today announced more details about Star Wars Battlefront's first paid expansion, Outer Rim, including the reveal of two new playable heroes.

Two new playable hero characters will be available in the expansion, Greedo and Nien Nunb, who were shown in the expansion's first piece of teaser art (above). EA did not share any details about either character's moves, but the art shows Greedo holding a pistol and Nien Nunb wielding a longrifle.

Outer Rim also comes with a brand new mode that we now know is called Extraction. Here is the description:

"Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources. Now they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point."

Additionally, Outer Rim comes with the following weapons and Star Cards:

  • Relby V-10 rifle
  • DT-12 blaster pistol
  • Scatter Gun (Star Card)
  • Dioxis Grenade (Star Card)
  • Adrenaline Stim (Star Card)

Outer Rim also features four new maps set on Sullust and Tatooine. Details are thin, but the Sullust maps take place in a smelting factory, while the Tatooine maps are set in and around Jabba's throne room. You can get a closer look at these maps in the image gallery above.

A release date for Outer Rim has not been announced, but it's coming sometime in March to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will be followed by other expansions Bespin (summer 2016), Death Star (fall 2016), and an untitled fourth add-on coming in early 2017.

Outer Rim, and the three other expansions, are included with the $50 Battlefront DLC pass. They will presumably also be able to buy individually, though pricing has not been announced.

Battlefront launched in November 2015 and has shipped more than 13 million copies, outperforming EA's expectations. Multiple sequels could be coming, according to comments from management.
