Star Trek Invasion Hands-On

Activision came by today to show us its new Colony Wars-inspired shooter, Star Trek: Invasion. Developed by Warthog, which includes the former lead programmer and artist from Psygnosis' Colony Wars team, Star Trek: Invasion looks very similar to the Colony Wars series, but much better, with asteroids flying around with reckless abandon. In one scene, a huge model of the Enterprise eased on by, and it looked fantastic, with none of the texture warping usually associated with large on-screen objects on the PlayStation.

Special effects are amazing as well, with some weapons offering light shows and explosions never seen before in the Colony Wars games. We'll have a full preview detailing Invasion's numerous innovations in the next few days, but in the meantime, take a gander at these new screenshots we've collected.
