Star Fox 64 3D takes flight September 9

3DS remake of Nintendo 64 sci-fi flight shooter is cleared for launch with new controls, multiplayer power-ups.

Star Fox 64 3D is coming in for a landing. Nintendo has confirmed it is readying the remake for release on the 3DS September 9.

Slippy and co. are ready to make a comeback.

More than just a straight port of the original, Star Fox 64 3D adds a number of features, including the ability to control the game's Arwing spacecraft using the 3DS's tilt-sensitive gyroscopic feature. The game also includes rerecorded voice work, and new power-ups for the game's multiplayer mode.

The game should also kick off a parade of first-party titles for the 3DS that should stretch through the end of the year. The recently announced Pokemon Rumble Blast will follow on October 24, and Nintendo has previously confirmed that Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Kid Icarus: Uprising will all arrive in 2011.

I don't have a 3DS (Though, I still own the original on N64) but if I did I would buy this. Those of you with 3DS's need to buy this game so those buttholes at Nintendo will make a new Starfox game! Just imagine, awesome Arwing action in HD on the WiiU!

This is a good move by Nintendo. They need to seed the 3DS library to spur game sales in time for the critical holiday sales season. With fewer new DS and Wii games slated for release, they need to get sales of the 3DS up fast or watch their earnings fall off a cliff.

Super Mario on 2011? I doubt it.

looks like the 3ds library will look a lot better pretty soon.

Hey if you keep buying these quick cash cow remakes, they will keep pumping them out. I just would rather see them do these further down the road and not lead off with them. Would be nice to see a new cutting age system with new cutting edge games.

I'm still hoping they decide to stuff the original starfox (starwing to those of us in the UK) in as an unlockable

@Triton I dont see why people get like that when they see this game,,,its only the second remake its not like there are thousands Besides yes it is a good way to sell a new console many people love to play old classics that have been re-imagined to be closer to their original concept and it exploits fresh audiences of new gamers. A good remake always draws in an audiences, always has always will especially when its a game as classic as starfox

I have Star Fox 64 on the Wii but that won't stop me from buying yet again in 3D...or in a couple of years when they rerelease it in HD for WiiU...or yet again even further in the future...

it was coming out on 911 as you can see GS has it listed still but they seem to have caught the mistake.

Star Fox 64 was on of my favorite games for the Nintendo 64. So a remake in 3D can do alright. The 3DS sales should pick up.

Cool, another remake. That's how you sell new systems...

I am a little disappointed that this is just a remake. But SF64 was a great game that I played to death. I'll probably still check it out.

boring, if zelda didn't sell many systems, this isn't gonna do much at all

Not impressed. 3DS sucks in my opinion. Just remakes of old games and the only ones I wanted have been cancelled. Vita is going to kick it's ass.

I liked the N64 one, but they could have bundled the orig. together with a NEW Starfox. That would be much better IMO. If they keep making remakes, this 3DS might be known as "the recycler".

This the only remake that Nintendo making of all of the Nintendo IPs being released this year.

In some ways I'm happy that old classics I never got the chance to play are being re-released (Starfox being one of them) I really wish Nintendo would make more effort for new original games not re-makes to direct ports. I will get this game because it's one of them games from the N64 era I really wanted to get but never got the chance to purchase. But again I really wish to re-iterate Nintendo must get out of this mentality of constantly re-releasing old games and start making fresh new ones the only sign of hope recently being shown is Mario 3DS which I will get my hands on for definite!

I already own Starfox 64. Because of that... I really want this game! I could never count how many times I've played through Starfox 64. The only downside is I'll have to go through the difficulty of unlocking on-foot multiplayer all over again.

@ Neo_Sarevok Considering the 3DS can emulate a DS,there is no reason a dev can be scared. What kind of wimps are they?I mean no offense to you,but every time I here about devs being scared or confused by something a gaming company has done,it drives me nuts.Where is their imagination anymore? Inchworm Animation was in developement for the DS for 5 years, then the 3DS came out.So they just released it on both. That's the way to do it if you won't be making an original 3DS game.

Ah,at last I shall enjoy the Star Fox game I never played.I love that Nintendo is taking great games from one of the greatest eras in gaming and bringing them to new audiences, and letting others revisit old friends. To all you haters, duh,of course they're doing it for business, and Nintendo is after all,a business. But people like this game and want to play it,so Nintendo is making it.If you don't like remakes just be patient.Several original games that are likely to be stellar are coming this holiday season.

thats good news we definitely need something to play..the end of this year is looking good for the 3ds minus a canceled game and some delays.

I don't mind remakes. I don't see the big deal over them. Nintendo still makes new games. They are only making remakes to take advantage of their system's abilities or to give people who haven't played the originals a chance to play. Nintendo isn't the only one making remakes, either. I have seen plenty of games on other systems that were ports or remakes. If you don't care for them, don't buy them, then.

oh but its alright if sony keeps porting ps2 games over to ps3 huh , what about microsoft they are remaking halo 1 again even though its already on xbla lol for 12 bucks , vs 60 ,, and its ok you guys are getting yet another remake in the form of goldeneye007 get over it , stop whining for remakes if you dont like them ,, every day its the same thing with you , in the forums people are like when are they going to remake this remake that, but when they do come out , oh i didnt buy this for this i dont want that seriously 3ds has more then just remakes, , ,and wait how is this hurting developers huh , they are just fine , its their decisions to make a game or not not nintnedos , its not their fault these lazy developers just get people amped up and cancel their games , its happened since the snes era , get over it

I love how Nintendo is just milking old games and their tired franchises to death while ripping everyone off in the meantime. No wonder I do not own a Wii (and never will) and care nothing for the Wii U. I am not an overweight housewife or have Tourette syndrome needing their worthless gimmick motion controls.

wow, seen that image, i might be wrong but that boss looks much better and prettier than on the n64, can't say for sure but that's what i remember from my mind, haven't played sf64 in ages

I basically hate the 3DS with a passion as it's causing developers to avoid porting the awesome DS games that the Japanese are still making. It's freaking developers out, thinking no one will buy DS games anymore. What was wrong with the DS? I don't know, I thought it was great. What gives Nintendo? Don't reinvent the wheel and stop scaring your developers.

And so Nintendo does it again. Remakes. I doubt you people bought a 3DS to play games that are over 10 years old. A sequel? Nah. Why bother when shoveling out the same game you've played before with a fresh coat of gimmick will probably get gobbled up by desperate gamers looking for anything to justify buying this handheld. Shame.

Another game to add to my very small 3DS library

Holoogamooga_

This points out one thing on the 3DS that doesn't make sense to me. They know the "sweet spot" for viewing the 3D is rather limited, so why do they keep putting tilt-sensitive controls into games? They work pretty well in OoT3D so long as I don't have the 3D bit activated...these things just don't go together.

The 3DS definitely has potential. It's off to a slow start though, but this is a good addition to the library. The Independence scene level was a great level btw.

LOL at all the responses to jecht_35's challenge. THE MOST EPIC BARREL ROLL IN ALL OF HISTORY.

So is the plan to just release the best N64 games in 3D? Is that going to be the extent of the 3DS catalog? Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the Ocarina of Time remake, but Nintendo REALLY needs to get some new IPs.

If I had to pay $40 and the whole game was just one single barrel roll on a handheld in 3D, I would still buy it.

Lazy nintendo ...this should have been a launch title ....reason why many people didn't get 3ds's was the poor variety of launch titles

It wasn't a really good game to begin with though it had terrific graphics for the moment when it was released.
