Final Fantasy fans dusted off their cell phones when news broke about the latest Square Enix mobile game set in the role-playing franchise's universe. Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode -Final Fantasy VII- will pit gamers as Vincent Valentine against the Deepground Soldiers.

The game will be released this summer, but there's a catch. Square today announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Amp'd Mobile to feature the game on its service before any other carriers. The game will be released this summer on Amp'd Mobile, and after the exclusive deal ends, it will head to other mobile companies.

The game takes place three years after Meteorfall (when FFVII ended) and will combine action and role-playing. A multiplayer function will be released at a later date, allowing gamers to go head-to-head over the network.

[UPDATE]: Square Enix originally announced a three-month exclusivity window for the game, but has since stated that its original release was mistaken. The actual length of the exclusivity is not yet confirmed, according to Square Enix.
