Square Amps up mobile Final Fantasy

Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode -Final Fantasy VII- rings up Amp'd Mobile phones before other cellies.

Final Fantasy fans dusted off their cell phones when news broke about the latest Square Enix mobile game set in the role-playing franchise's universe. Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode -Final Fantasy VII- will pit gamers as Vincent Valentine against the Deepground Soldiers.

The game will be released this summer, but there's a catch. Square today announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Amp'd Mobile to feature the game on its service before any other carriers. The game will be released this summer on Amp'd Mobile, and after the exclusive deal ends, it will head to other mobile companies.

The game takes place three years after Meteorfall (when FFVII ended) and will combine action and role-playing. A multiplayer function will be released at a later date, allowing gamers to go head-to-head over the network.

[UPDATE]: Square Enix originally announced a three-month exclusivity window for the game, but has since stated that its original release was mistaken. The actual length of the exclusivity is not yet confirmed, according to Square Enix.

Final Fantasy VII was a good game. It's too bad it couldn't be left at that. It's like making more sequels to Donnie Darko. It ended fine.

wow...let's see how much more square can milk out of the final fantasy 7 series... and now it looks like they're gonna make a habit out of it with 3 different final fantasy 13 games. and being on the ps3 doesn't help either. you'll be spending thousands for video games.

Well, although many people are open to their opinions. I have to say that I absolutely love the Final Fantasy VII series. In fact, I like that game better than any of the others (to date). Final Fantasy VII had it all but I admit that it does seem a bit over done. However, I think this Final Fantasy VII series is only going to last this year and then Square-Enix will open their eyes to other Final Fantasy Series after this year. I remember Square-Enix saying that this year is the year of " Compilations of Final Fantasy VII ". Now it seems very clear that is the case. The movie, the games and everything else. Although, I have to admit, I am eager to see Crisis Core on PSP. Looks to be similar to its PSOne counterpart but better looking.

Final Fantasy VII has been milked too much, Square-Enix has to stop it now.

if i play it, i'll wait to play it. i can wait three months to see how it does on amp'd first. i might be a square junkie, but not so much that i'm going to change my cell phone service (or decide to change services when i renew) just for them.

Ooh. I might just get that. :D The last game that I got on my cellie [Gas Station Tycoon] was not worth the 6 bucks charged to my bill.

Gotta remember that the cell phone industry is more advanced in Europe and japan then it is in the states. Their networks are much better built then ours. This is cool news but not really exciting in the least. What it means to a lot of NA consumers is going out and buying a new cell phone (200 bucks and up) just to play this game. Then you have to ask yourself is it really worth spending that much on a cell phone to play a game... oh and maybe use it as a phone now and then.

Who cares?? S-E...and apparantly the Japanese game industry...and numerous other areas where mobile gaming is actually pretty popular and a pretty high profit arena. S-E supports it because it makes them money. They've publicly said mobile gaming is one of their highest profit mediums.
