"Will he get any more self-aware in the sequel? No, god no. He'll get less self-aware."

Director Paul Feig has spoken up about his ideas for a sequel to last summer's action-comedy Spy. He said in a new interview that he's excited to get started and hopes to make Jason Statham's Rick Ford character even more dimwitted for the second go-around.

"I have a story for it, and a funny idea that will kick it off that involves Statham," Feig teased in an interview with Empire.

Feig added that Melissa McCarthy's Spy character, Susan Cooper, is one of his favorite characters he's ever come up with. However, it's Rick Ford--an agent competing with Cooper in the film who is fond of hilarious anecdotes--that is "possibly the one I'll take to the grave with me," Feig said.

"Will he get any more self-aware in the sequel? No, god no. He'll get less self-aware," Feig said, in news that is likely to please fans of the first movie.

Speaking generally about Spy, Feig said it's a franchise he does not want to "walk away from." He added that it's the first property he's developed specifically to be a possible series. Additionally, McCarthy is "dying to" make a sequel, according to Feig.

Reviews for Spy were mostly positive. According to Box Office Mojo, the film pulled in more than $235 million worldwide, against a budget of $65 million.

In addition to McCarthy and Statham, Spy starred Jude Law, Allison Janney, and Rose Byrne. Whether or not they would return for the sequel, or who else might be added, remains to be seen. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that Spy 2, or whatever it might be called, has not yet been officially announced and Feig's ideas of course are subject to change.

Feig's next movie is July's Ghostbusters reboot, which stars McCarthy as one of the new all-female team of Ghostbusters.
