Spore getting spare Parts, Space expansion

EA confirms Creepy & Cute Parts Pack for November 18, with Space stage slated for spring 2009.

by

GameStop's listing for Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack is back, and this time it's official. Along with officially announcing today the first add-on pack for Will Wright and Maxis' evolution simulator Spore--10 days after it was spotted in the specialty retailer's online database--EA also revealed the game's first expansion, which will focus on the Space Age.

Behold, the new sun.

As previously reported, the Creepy & Cute Parts Pack will be available for PCs and Macs beginning November 18. The add-on will include in excess of 100 new creature-building parts that will fall in line with the titular theme. The parts, available in the game's Creature Creator, include components for the body, as well as paint options, animations, and backgrounds.

EA has told GameSpot that pricing has not yet been confirmed for the add-on pack, but the aforementioned retail space has the game listed for $19.99. Further, the pack can be used with both Spore proper and the retail version of the Spore Creature Creator, released in June.

Spore's first full expansion, which EA is currently referring to as the Space stage pack, will arrive in spring 2009. The expansion will give space-borne civilizations Star Trek-esque teleportation technology, letting players beam down to distant planets and undertake new missions. The expansion will also add in the Adventure Creator, which will let gamers build and share their own missions. EA did not reveal pricing information for the Space expansion.

Expansion sounds good, I hope they keep making new expansions that make the game a little more complex (especially the civilization phase!!)

well, they do say pricing is yet to be confirmed, and that $19.99 price tag that appeared breifly was probably just an online store taking a wild guess (as they often do about release dates and prices), so let's give them the benefit of the doubt I'd pay max $5.99 for an add-on pack like that, no more.

brilhasti

I really wish they'd spend more time on the other stages. The Space Stage is already the most complex by a long shot.

i know it was fun but whod buy u know new parts for 20 bucks, i hated how they did it with the sims, this is gonna ruin spore... i wasnt as impressed as i wanted to be with it anyway though ToT

behold!the next the sims with 100s of expansion packs that topple over $1,000's of dollars worth of games.i just want an expansion that lets me create solar systems instead of just destroying them i mean the only tool that i like in the space stage is the "planet buster" and "the staff of life" why cant they add in one of these expansions the "planet creation" tool and the sun creation tool and how about the sun buster!

$19.99 for new parts? You're kidding me right? I'm not normally one to b*tch, but why would I pay $19.99 for cosmetic alterations to a game I'm not playing anymore?

howard1030

EA: Pull your developers off the cosmetics and make my game work. I paid £35 for a work-in-progress and now I basically have to subscribe to get anything more? I'm out.

This is becoming another "The Sims". Thanks EA, you are master at ruining game experience.

I think everyone is looking more foreward to the Space expansion that the parts pack... naturally...

No more paying for spore, thanks... I want free stuff

Whatever happened to patches, where you could download upgrades and new content for FREE? Well, EA clearly thinks they're going to make big money off of this, and they might, but I also predict a serious rise in piracy for the expansions, seeing as just about everyone seems to believe all this stuff should have been in the original--and isn't willing to pay an additional $20 to upgrade a game that is extremely expensive in the first place.

This "bare bones game, 10,000 expansion pack" mentality of EA and Maxis is one of the many reasons I got The Elder Scrolls 3 instead of Spore.

This is going to end up like the sims isn't it? Ah well, whilst I'm at it, there should be more on the creature stage, a medieval age, just to use the phrase I wanna get medieval on your ass and also create steeds, and some varient of fish stage as well as bigger more epic space battles. With bigger ships. And bigger lasers. And bigger guns. And cake.

How are people surprised at the news of expansions for Spore? Who honestly didn't see it coming? I for one am glad that there'll be more expansions. Though I'm looking forward to the Space expansion much more than the parts add-on.

FlamingFury

*Sigh* this is just gonna be like the sims again. I thought it was insane when the sims 1 had like 10 expansion packs, but Sims 2 was friggin insane, there was like 50. I think it's pretty slack and a way to milk money, but I suppose it's good for fans of the genre, but personally I think that Sims 2 and now Spore are a bigger ripoff than MMORPG's, as in the end you will probably spend $700 if you want all of them.

Mortis_Noctem
Mortis_Noctem

As annoyed as I am due to "money-Milking", I, like most of the people who bought SPORE, will buy the expansions.

Pinkaugust

This is ridiculous! Another Maxis-game that gets loads of expansions for sale! Why oh why can they not just patch it for free like in the old days! Bioware does it! They're one of the best game devs in the world! People buy their games because they're guaranteed to be good. The same cannot be said for Maxis and EA. Spore was like Fable all over again! Is someone willing to threaten Will Wright? I say it needs to be done so this never happens again!

No thanks EA. You can leave now.

Milking for more money is the American way, hope i dont get another warning for saying that. Only a month away for parts pack but no pics ?

Totally shameless. They postponed this game forever, getting the hype to a fever pitch, but they certainly wasted no time getting the expansion packs out after making us wait forever for a dumbed down, dull game that barely resembled what we were all waiting for. To quote others, let the milking begin. Totally shameless.

osiris

Spore, I don't mind it, its a casual game that I play every once in a while, expanding my space empire a little more. Its pretty generic. Hopefully, if the really do implement this "Adventure Creator", that will liven it up a lot, with the community input it could provide. Instead of the basic eco-disaster, you could have anything going on, from whatever to anything that fits in the game. That would help it a lot. Although, it almost looks like they couldn't think of the missions themselves, so they are leaving us to do it, heh.

Elem3nt

Here we go, the first of many expansions, featuring content that should have been in the original release. I guess they have to do something to to improve on spores shallow dumbed down gameplay. EA you are facing a huge backlash, you will feel it in your pocket.

I will not support EA's money milking any longer. The creature customization was excellent and fun, but the rest of the game is quite dull.

no thanks - spore needs no expanded mediocrity - will wright needs to go back to the drawing board. This game lasted me about 3 hours until i was thoroughly sick of it - and removed it from my computer. The DRM ended up not being the problem it should have been, thanks to a crappy game.

Humorguy_basic
Humorguy_basic

Could someone at Gamespot tell us if Spore sales have affected Sims sales? I think it has probably made little impact as the depth of the Sims is in complete contrast to the shallow Spore. I don't think we'' get to even 10 expansions for Spore as I don't think it's going to even touch the sales of The Sims. It would so well to do 50% of the numbers, but I think it will do even less than that! I never thought I would say this, but Spore is even dumbed down when compared to the Sims. Even casual gamers are not going to go for that!

Welcome to the first of a guaranteed 10+ expansion packs. Time to get that EA moneycounter out.

It'd be nice if the pack allowed to you make Dead Space like spore creatures.

Would like to see a some kind of FTL drive for the space stage, I hate having to crawl across my empire travsing Wormholes to prevent an eco-diaster or invasion on my planets that are lightyears away, would love to plot a point from one part of my galaxy to the other in one click not a billion.

Expansion sounds good. Paying 20 bucks when I can get something like World of Goo is not.

So it begins... I hope these expansions like the space stage pack will make the game better rather than repeatedly adding pointless crap to an already overloaded game.

Spore was dissapointing. It was stripped down from what we were originally promised, a shadow of its former self. I doubt I will bother with the Xpack.

Cool. It'll be nice to be able to have a bit more variety, I'm already sick of the game right now. I'm sure this'll reignite my interest (and millions of creatures that'll get hit by my lasers).

For those not liking the space stage, I find this surprising because I find it the most complete and full featured of the stages. Also,

Those Creature packs should be free, you know. But the Space packs sounds great. I never did bought those The Sims 2 packs, but pretty much bought all the expansions (primarily because I love monsters, but also for the new mechanics). The only reason I skipped the newest one was because I'm buying Spore.

A lot of people are complaining that Spore is getting expansions. Again, I don't understand why people complain about a company supporting their product by continuing to release more content for it as soon as possible. Do people complain about new Rock Band tracks? I sure don't. Also, I doubt this content was ready for the release of the retail game. With a game as complex as this, they probably spent most of this year just tuning the game-play and fixing bugs. If you don't want the expansions, you don't have to buy them! If you want to complain, find something worth complaining about, please...
