Splinter Cell: Conviction, R.U.S.E. delayed

Ubisoft once again delays stealth actioner, this time to April; all-new WWII strategy title bumped to next fiscal year.

Sam Fisher has been working on his escape from Ubisoft's game factory since 2006, when Splinter Cell: Conviction was announced for the Xbox 360 and PC. After a host of holdups, it appeared as if the Splinter Cell hero would at last find freedom on retail shelves, when Ubisoft attached a firm February 23 release date to the stealth-oriented action game in September.

Sam Fisher needs a hug.

Unfortunately, that will not be the case, as Ubisoft announced today that Splinter Cell Conviction has been delayed out of its current fiscal year and into April 2010. The publisher also said that its all-new World War II strategy game R.U.S.E. has been pushed into its upcoming fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2010, to March 31, 2011. Ubisoft gave no explanation for the delays.

Conviction is set two years after Splinter Cell: Double Agent, which saw series hero Sam Fisher become a fugitive from the FBI, NSA, and Interpol. In the course of investigating his daughter's death, the now-unkempt Fisher discovers that his former employer, the covert organization Third Echelon, has double-crossed him. Avoiding capture, he travels to Washington, DC, to uncover the conspiracy that led to his undeserved disgrace.

As for R.U.S.E., the game is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC at Eugen Systems, the France-based developer of Atari's Act of War series. An RTS game with a twist, R.U.S.E. encourages players to resort to deception, using special cards to fool players with nonexistent units, make weak units look strong, and vice versa.

Delayed yet AGAIN after they said everything was complete and all they needed is more polishing? Really starting to have doubts about this game now...what? I guess it's nothing but ghosts and shadows here

personally, THANK GOD! I was freaking out with ME2 releasing a month before and FF13 releasing less than a month after. Now I'll be able to devote a proper amount of time to these games. And I'll be able to afford the collector's edition!

They delayed it because of the other marquee games coming out soon, like ME 2 and Bioshock 2, both are coming out end-Jan, beginning Feb. I think Splinter Cell would lose quite a bit of business to those 2, and they know that. Saving it for a leaner month, also in the next fscal year, but early, to start it out with a bang.

Doh!! Just got an e-mail from Amazon about my pre-order stating this too. Well, I guess I'll play through Dragon Age again in the meantime.

the more time spent on it the better it will be.

They delayed it because its such a popular game that they know you will go out and buy it anyway, so they want to release this R.U.S.E before it can so it get some hype. otherwise if they relase it afterwords, everyone will be like. "WTF R.U.S.E? imma go play Splinter cell."

As much as I am disappointed by this delay, I kinda see it as positive thing .. more time for the developers to perfect this game!

@acsam12304 i agree that this should be a PS3 game too, seeing as EVERY other splinter cell game has been on a PS console, and it even had an exclusive, with the PSP version... but , in true microsoft style, bribed ubisoft to make it an exclusove.. hopefully its just timed..

I think it just beat MGS4 in terms of delays...

Too many good games coming out anyways. Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, FF13, Mafia 2 I think, and I still need to pick up Assassin's Creed 2 damn it!

The reason why this is delayed is because Ubisoft did not make as much money as they were expected this financial year so they are delaying this and other games to increase their profit for the next financial year. To keep share holders happy and Turkey slap gamers.

@acsam12304 Just google Splinter Cell Conviction. You will find page links that have quotes from Ubisoft's web site on their forum. Just to sum some of it up, it goes back to gen. SC games were multi-platform but MS was the only one to believe the game and hevily promote the game. They don't intend to port it to the PS3. It is also reported that the Splinter Cell development team doesn't even have a PS3 development kit.

te thing i want to know is why the hell this game is not coming out for the PS3. 360, PC, and DS? the DS gets a port? wow i mean really the DS if they want to slap Sony int he face they port tot he DS and not even the wii port !? i mean come on by now the 360/PS3 wars is much over. ( i think.. i havent been on this site for a while idk if fanboys are still fighting it out or not.) but they should ust bring this game tot he PS3 for crying out loud just make a PS3 port. they had a little over the 4 years to make this game. and they only port they could come with is a DS port? the thing is Splinter Cell always been for all the consoles i dont know why they just want to make a 360/PC only game. this is just going to make Playstation owners hate Ubi Soft and when they do make a PS3 port for the game no one will want to buy it.

This is an outrage, and insult to all us fans. I think we should boycott this game guys.

After this long it can't be a quality issue, the game is probably done and this is likely because of the amount of good games coming out around the same time. I know i wouldn't have been able to get it in February after spending 65 on mass effect. If it is a quality issue, then i don't know what to say about this game they've revamped twice already.

What they are doing is just slack. if the game isn't mind-blowing, they've lost my respect. been patient for too long son.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Ubisoft are an awesome developer, as proven with Assassin's Creed 2.

@Gutz_Berzerker, how are Canadians messing up a good series? It was Ubisoft Montreal that made Splinter Cell and Chaos Theory (the two best games in the series).

They want to create a PERFECT game and everybody knows that's impossible so if I'm gonna wait I have better chances to wait for Jesus Christ to come on earth.

Nice to see more studios taking Blizzard's approach to game production: Delay games until they are good, even if it is to the chagrin of everyone in the gaming community. I get just as disappointed as anyone when games I'm tracking are delayed, but I'll take playing a fantastic game a few months down the road than playing (or not playing) a mediocre one today.

@ParagonFury You really think they will take out their favorite feature of Conviction? Every video talks about it, why would they take it out for multiplayer. No you "dont fix what aint broken", but what if it is for the better. Sure i liked SC but this one looks so much better. If you're not a fan of it, don't get it. Maybe this new SC will bring in people who didn't like the other ones. I personally like this idea, and MP isn't everything. Look at borderlands, its great and it doesn't have MP(competitive at lest) I think if the story and game play are good, this game will be awesome, with or without, SvM.
