Splinter Cell 3 title blown?

Ubisoft registers "Splinter Cell Chaos Theory" with the US Patent Office; "Remember Shadow Strike," cautions the publisher.

Earlier today, reports began to surface that Ubisoft had registered the title "Splinter Cell Chaos Theory" with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Since the Splinter Cell title in development is Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3, many figured that the moniker was meant for the game, which recently won Game of the Show in GameSpot's Best of E3 Awards.

However, while the title was indeed trademarked on May 3 in the "software and electronic games" category, it is not the official title--yet. When contacted by GameSpot, Ubisoft representatives would neither confirm nor deny the title's authenticity. "In terms of the titles, we always explore a number of possibilities and have no further details about either the name of the game or platforms beyond the PC at this time," said one rep.

The rep also held up the second Splinter Cell's initial title--which was later scrapped--as a warning. "Remember Pandora Tomorrow and Shadow Strike," he cautioned.
