Spider-Man Hands-On

We knew you wouldn't be satisfied unless you got multiple hands-on impressions of Spider-Man. So here you go.

One of the most impressive PlayStation games on the show floor was Activision's latest incarnation of Spider-Man. The game is a 3D-action game that puts you in the role of the world's most famous web slinger who is out to protect the innocent from the dreaded super villains that inhabit the Spider-Man universe.

While the game certainly looked visually impressive, it's the game's controls that really draw you in and makes playing the game so much fun. First off, you have almost total freedom to go anywhere you want, which gives you a wonderful feeling of freedom. If you see a building off in the distance all you have to do is jump up in the air and cast a line of web into the sky to reach it. More over, you have the ability to crawl on just about any surface you find, whether it is a wall, the side of a building, or even the ceiling of a room.

Aside from the game's control, the overall presentation of the game is next best thing about the game. The sound, music, and voices all play into the gameplay and help tell the story of the game. For instance one of the coolest things about the game is when you hear Spidey say, "My spider sense is tingling" and the controller vibrates letting you know that enemies are near.

The levels are put together well and give you different types of environments to explore that mix the gameplay up a bit from level to level. For example one level will have you web-swinging across the city to reach a location then the next will be a fast paced hand to hand combat sequence with multiple enemies.

Overall, Spider-Man was one of the few PlayStation games that really stood out at the show next to all of the PS2 and Dreamcast titles. I know I am excited.
