Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men Destiny tap Hollywood talent

Activision enlists film icon Val Kilmer, Smallville star Laura Vandervoort, Battlestar Galactica lieutenant Katee Sackhoff, and more for upcoming games.

Megapublisher Activision signed Hollywood icons Sarah Michelle Gellar, Danny Trejo, George Romero, Michael Englund, and Michael Rooker for the new zombie level in Call of Duty: Black Ops' Escalation downloadable content. Now, the publisher is reaching to Hollywood again for Spider-Man: Edge of Time and X-Men: Destiny.

Activision has signed a list of Hollywood actors for its upcoming Marvel games.

Activision sent word today that Spider-Man: Edge of Time will benefit from voice work contributed by Val Kilmer (Heat, Top Secret), who will play Walker Sloan. Additionally, the new Spider-Man game casts Smallville star Laura Vandervoort as Mary Jane and Battlestar Gallactica's Katee Sackhoff as the Black Cat.

As for X-Men: Destiny, Activision has commissioned Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, Heroes) to play Grant Alexander, Hangover II's Jamie Chung as Aimi Yoshida, and Friday Night Lights' Scott Porter as Adrian Luca.

Gamers hoping to learn more about Activision's partnership with Marvel can do so at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego, which runs this Thursday through Sunday. Spider-Man: Edge of Time and X-Men: Destiny will be discussed at greater length during the Marvel Video Games Panel on Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. Comic book icon Stan Lee, Marvel writer Peter David, and Beenox studio boss Dee Brown will be on hand to discuss the franchises.

@liam82517 : This is true, hopefully the (fairly closely release) double titles of Captain America and Thor (which will hopefully learn from the bad reviews on other systems) will be either the exception or trend towards the better..there are few good action games out for 3ds yet so hopefully these will be good as Sega knows since there are so few out there for 3ds yet that they will have a lot riding on their shoulders.

@moviequest14 Dont blame marvel, blame sega. They continue to buy up IPs and then push out mediocre game after mediocre game. I cant even think when the last time sega released anything that wasnt substandard generic trash.

Make it look like Arkham City. Then we'll talk.

Katee Sackhoff will make a great Black Cat. She definitely has the sex appeal for it. Doubt it will make the game playable though. To me, if its not open world, its not Spider-Man. Its like having Batman with no grappling.

I hope Marvel might learn a lesson from the frying of ''Thor: the game'' and learn to put just as much quality and attention into their movie title releases as their individual releases.Anyone remember Spiderman 2? That was a good sized, open world game that felt like a real game..not just a movie tie-in.Where are those types of games marvel?

Well its a gaven the new x man game is gonna suck. I want another great title like Marvel Ultimate alliance was but instead of having a ton of different characters in it make it just based around the xman and well add your great story rpg type game elments and bing go pure golden... Oh well too much to ask I guess...

Activision should concentrate more on making their superhero games as good as RockSteady does with Batman.. Good actors doesn't always mean good games.. just believable characters. The games could still suck ass. Kind of reminds me of the Command and Conquer franchise, the more known actors that were introduced the worst the games have been. All went down hill after Red Alert 2 :(

I hope video game developers know that hiring "Holywood talent" doesnt make a game good, they waste too much money hiring these actors and actresses instead of making a good story or improving the gameplay

the x-men game looks like it has potential but I probably won't buy it. I just don't think it's possible to make a really stellar x-men game; the series is too vast with so much potential that current video game technology cannot hope to capture, at least not with the budget Activision puts into developing the game. They know the license alone will make it sell after all. Plus, the graphics look a bit... unpolished? last gen? Something like that.

@Termite3030 That's why batman:AA gets extra points from me because it had the same voice actors from the cartoon Mark Hamill voicing the joker FTW!

that x-men game looks terribad x.x so jittery. why can people make a respectable spiderman game but never a good x-men game since the arcade brawlers?

I don't care who does the voices to my favorite characters. I just wish they would stick to the same voice actors. I always miss the voices from the old animated 90s X-Men cartoon.

At the end, good game-play and storyline matters more than the actors who voiced the characters of the game.. AA was the most excellent game on superheros yet. We wanna see more like those.

I love Val Kilmer. He's got a lot of talent. He actually sang all the songs in The Doors. Also hilarious in MacGruber.

The Battlestar Woman voicing Black cat in the next Spiderman game. Could be good, As Spiderman videogames are usually great. (Except Spiderman 3 for the Playstation 3) that one sucked.

Instead of paying Hollywood actors Activision should use the money to make their superhero games as good as Arkham Asylum.

Isn't it Robert Englund in Call of the Dead? Anyway, I don't really care much who they sign on as long as the game is better then the last. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension was good, but to be honest I'd realy like it if they stuck with one Spider-Man not two. Alternate demensions and realities to me are kind of lame.

not really feeling this game at all right now... was actually exited for an "rpg" like x men but the more i see this the less interested i am...

Val Kilmer was in Batman Forever... ...for some reason, bringing him into do voice work for a superhero game sounds like an awful idea.

They should make a spider-man game like spider-man 2 but upgrade it for ps3 and 360! That is: Bigger world, more detailed, better graphics, more stuff to do, more playable characters, multiplayer (maybe free roam and some other modes?), etc etc.

If you make those games mediocre,no voice actors can make them much better.

it doesnt really matter who the voice actors are as long as they sound good.
