It is not yet confirmed if Spider-Man will show up in the next Avengers movie, according to actor Tom Holland. He said in a new interview that nothing has been decided regarding the web-slinger's standing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"It's all up in the air," Holland told Variety about possibly being in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. "I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I'm unclear as to what that deal is."

Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in May's Captain America: Civil War. He had a relatively small role in that movie, but he will of course be the focus of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. According to Holland, plans are already in motion for a sequel to that film, while Spider-Man spinoffs are also on the way.

His comments about being in Infinity War suggest that Marvel and Sony are trying to hammer out a deal regarding Spider-Man's rights, which are held by Sony. As Collider reminds us, Sony Pictures boss Tom Rothman was not leading the company when Sony inked a deal with Marvel to put Spider-Man in Civil War. Putting Spider-Man in an Avengers movie would seemingly boost the character's profile, in turn generating more interest in standalone Spider-Man movies in the future. Both sides are aware of this and negotiations are likely to hinge upon a number of factors, which we may never learn about.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017--production recently wrapped up. It was directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and also stars Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr, Donald Glover, Tony Revolori, and Tyne Daly. Additionally, it's been reported that Zendaya will play Mary Jane.

In Spider-Man gaming news, Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac is making a Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4, though it remains to be seen if it will be released alongside the movie next year.
