Spec Ops: The Line dev working on free-to-play game

Job listings at Yager suggest developer currently at work on "AAA F2P" project.

by

The next project from Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager will be a "AAA F2P" game, according to job listings found on the studio's website by Videogamer.

This project is believed to be the Unreal Engine 4-powered next-generation game that the studio announced in March.

A job listing for a senior multiplayer level designer specifically describes the unannounced game as a "AAA F2P" title, while another suggests the game will be military-themed.

Yager job listings from March suggested this project would feature microtransactions and cross-platform play, though the developer has not confirmed anything about this so far.

Spec Ops: The Line, a third-person shooter published by Grand Theft Auto parent company Take-Two Interactive, launched in June 2012. For more on that game, check out GameSpot's review.

This was a good game with a great story and it is a sad day to see them go F2P. I do not want to spoil the game, but the multiple endings in this game where great.

I was really anticipating this game.....really wanted to play it, and when I did. Disappointment.

Specs Ops the Line was one of the most underrated games I've played. I'm glad I ignored many of the critical reviews for that one. I'm not sure how I feel about these guys doing a F2P game though. F2P usually = mass micro-transactions.

I wish them all luck, even though it will fail.

That's like ummmm, cool and all, but could you maybe just instead like, make another amazing single-player game?

I wish them the best in whatever they do, even if it's a game I don't care about. Spec Ops the Line was a great game and I respect that they told that story. That game will be remembered for a long time.

Noooo, why? I thought Spec ops was a well thought out game. Sure it has some flaws but its a good experiment if you ask me. But why FTP? srly this would get them nowhere.

@pszone That's the name of the game, not the dev. Not much sense if you correct it anyway, game was one of the best of 2012

@santinegrete @pszone Indeed it was probably one of the only good third person shooters ever made, if you rule out other hybrids like RE4 or whatever else.
