South Park: The Stick of Truth drops to $40 a month after release

Retailers Amazon and GameStop offering $20 discount on licensed RPG from Obsidian Entertainment.

One month after release, new copies of Ubisoft's role-playing game South Park: The Stick of Truth, developed by Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian Entertainment, are now available at retailers like Amazon and GameStop for $40. That's $20 below the game's original $60 asking price at launch last month.

The new, lower price point is currently good for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of the game at Amazon, while GameStop's savings are only for consoles. The PC version continues to sell for $60 through Ubisoft's store and Steam. It's unclear if the new $40 price point for South Park: The Stick of Truth is an official price drop or just a retailer-led promotion. We have reached out to Ubisoft for comment.

It is because the game is a fail. Right? RIGHT!?

This news is pointless. EB Games and Walmart always puts new release games down to $40 bucks within a month of release. Damn, My Walmart had GTA V down to $24.83 2 weeks after release.

Of course its dropping. Its a game made by obsidian and all they make it mediocre games at best. They constantly fail at taking over other franchises and everytime thus far they attempted at creating something new it pretty much bombs and is in the bargain bin within 6 months (unless youre alpha protocol then its less than 30 days).

I think this probably got a great deal of slack for its overall god awful quality simply because it is 1 southpark and 2 because stone and parker were both involved in it for once.

Is it the worst game ever? No. Is it worth more than getting for 10 bucks used from gamelfy on their next big season sale? No it isn't.

What're GameStop doing not dropping the price of the PC version? That to me suggests this is a retailer lead price promotion.

It doesn't seem like there is a ton of 'game' there from the previews and reviews.  I've always liked South Park but I can get all of the laughs I want from the show.  I don't see the value in paying $40 for more of the same with a shallow game tacked on.

Waiting for the steam sale probably later this or next month to get it for $5

Doesn't mean it isn't an awesome game. I bought it on day one from Steam and I only wish it was a little longer.

I read the headline like it only cost $40 a month to play now, you know like a subscription fee.

LOL at the people that buy games day-1.

At $60 the value is a little bit meh, $40 you have no excuse. Even if you hate South Park the game humor alone is enough to warrant a purchase

All they had to do was "copy" Earthbound (and get more dev time). They were so ****ing close; I was wondering when I'm gonna get two Twoson (second town in Earthbound, could have been Beaverton or Greeley in SP), but it never happened... then it ended. (rant over)

ShouIda been 39.99 from t he start. I know I overshot my expectations, but I still loved the game.

This game is FANTASTIC at full price. At $40, you should shoot yourself if you don't buy it.

Good deal, but I didn't mind paying $60 for this game. It's absolutely hilarious and the story isn't too bad either. I'm still playing it now.

Non-story.  It's entirely common for Amazon to discount games not long after release.  This is why I can never understand when people speak as if they always pay $60 for new games.

this is the definitive southpark game, so 40 dollars is an awesome deal

Anything on last gen consoles should really be 49.99 and under now anyways.

That's nice, I got mine for $20 on Steam a month before it was released. PC master race? Um... yea, enjoy your $60 games.

Should have been 440 to begin with.  Its the right price for this game.

"The PC version continues to sell for $60 through Ubisoft's store and Steam"

That was rather off putting before launch but GAME were selling the physical version for $40 at launch only difference was the choice of preorder costumes (Which while typing this reminded me I haven't even used yet)

Yeah...at 42, I haven't been interested in SP since I was 25.

It should have been an ipad game. I don't understand why play it in 360/ps3.

I rented this and wished I owned it.  Absolutely loved it and I haven't watched South Park in years but knew enough about it to enjoy what I saw of it.  I played 7 hrs straight and when I had to return it to the rental store it killed me.

$40 is a pretty accurate price for it. As much fun and enjoyment I got out of it, I felt it left me without much left. I did all the sidequests and main quests in about 2 days. (Playing on and off) I guess it's kind of the point that they leave you wanting more, which they definitely did. It was incredibly fun, but with that fun, came a bit of a let down when the feeling finally set in that it was over, I'd already beaten it. Sure, I can go ahead and do the other classes and such, but the weapons are all the same so it doesn't feel 'different' each time, as fallout or skyrim would, aside from the abilities. Great game, but left me wanting more. (Probably not a bad thing?)

Except Steam sales don't happen nearly as quickly as deluded Tubbychasers seem to think they do.  Steam is not good.

we still have these here in Quebec,Canada called Le Super Club Videotron/Microplay where you can rent movies and games.

@deathstream @nyran125tk  It typically takes a month or so to get a 25% sale on a new game, and within a year you can get most games under 15$. I'd say that's pretty good compared to the typical console counterpart.

nyran125tk

@deathstream @nyran125tk  ive been a STEAM member since 2004. Ive had zero problems with it. Also if you want to play offline. its easy, you delete the clientregistry blob FIRST then go offline mode. I was offline 6 months, without having any access to the internet and could play my games in that time period without the net.
