South Park RPG delayed again

The Stick of Truth now scheduled to launch on March 4, 2014.

The Obsidian Entertainment-developed South Park: The Stick of Truth has been delayed again. Ubisoft announced today that the role-playing game is now scheduled to release on March 4, a year after its original release date, and three months later than its previous December 10 launch date.

Ubisoft purchased South Park: The Stick of Truth for $3.2 million in January as part of the THQ bankruptcy auction. The company said today that when it bought the game, it was nearly complete. However, it turned out more work was actually needed.

"Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted," Ubisoft North America president Laurent Detoc said. "It's been such a major overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn't let it go, even if that meant missing December."

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker agreed.

"We always wanted the game to feel like you're actually in an episode of South Park," the pair said in a statement. "Getting the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and we're excited to say it's taken way longer than we thought it would."

Is this going to be released on PS4 as well?

Im afraid I wont be playing this then. I mean, if its coming out March Next year i will have moved onto the next generation of consoles.

IMO they should just port this straight over to the One and PS4

I'm not sure why some people are upset with this, and getting petty over it. I'm sure it'll be a fun game, but at least I can watch new episodes of the TV show every Wednesday, in the same timeslot it's been in for the past 15 years. Watch Dogs getting delayed is something to get upset over. This? Take your sweet time.

This game better be incredible by the time it comes out. I thought it looked pretty good at NYC Comicon so I guess they are perfecting it, which is always nice.

i belive the games are done, watch dogs as well, they just dont want to release 3 major titles in such short period of time - there is ac Iv, watch dogs should be released soon, and then south park, (maybe some other, dont know) not to mention other major titles like battlefield 4, cod, nfs rivals, batman, and the fact that gta story is still fresh (this is just a few). Its just to many great games lunches in short time, so i belive its justified move, because those games cant reach its full sale potential under this conditions, and its all in profit. We must accept that if we want great games to keep flowing in. I' am still disapointed, but...

It's an Obsidian game.  Anyone surprised by delays (I'm certain it's bugs at the very least) has not followed that company's development history.

Will be excited to play this when it comes out though. We've been promised a real game that they are taking seriously and from all the interviews and trailers, it sounds like it's going to be the real deal. But Ubi...... can't trust those guys.

I'm surprised it has even escaped the black hole of THQ. But, so did Darksiders.

Hopefully they've used the time to flesh out the gameplay and make it something better than just Costume Quest with licensed characters.  Costume Quest was fun enough for a budget game, but I would hope for more from a full-priced release.

Take all the time you need. We don't want a rushed product.

I really hope Obsidian doesn't drop the ball with this. The trailers have been funny as hell, so it would be a shame for the game to fall flat.

Wasn't the March release date announce months ago??

Awesome! I had 2 other games coming out on that date, so I can pre-order this again

This could either be good news and theyy managed to improve it or it could be horrible and they broke a game they didn't understand :S

Goddamit!!! I've been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced.

"Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down...."

So Ubisoft gave us the December release date for a product that they hadn't even looked at yet??? Is that what happened?

Assholes.

on one side it is an obsidian RPG on the other side it is southpark. Still not sure if I should get it. Loved southpark till around season 7-8 but then either I grew up or the show was getting less fun. Jokes are really too easy.

Get it right. We've had plenty of mediocre South Park games. I'm more than happy to wait for this one to be done right.

From March to November to December and back to March again. Just say TBA till they know its ready. Quit getting my hopes up

No one is going to care about the game anymore if they keep delaying it.  It's South Park, not exactly a graphics tour deforce.  Due to the shows episodes it doesn't seem like they need to go for a Xenosaga or Xenogears type story.  Just make a continuation of the tourettes episode or the medical marijuana episode.  How hard can it be.

So now 3 promising Ubisoft titles are delayed to spring. Watch Dogs, The Crew, and now this

I didn't know this game was part of what used to be THQ...poor guys..not even Jason Rubin could save them. I wonder if the whole uDraw thing really had as much to do with the company's downfall as they keep saying, I'm sure it's more complicated.

First the power goes out delaying an episode, now what's their excuse? A volcano erupted and they forgot to duck & cover?

Remember Splinter Cell Conviction?  they delayed it and then set a new date imprinted on a stone.  Uses these extra time for polishing and debugging the game.  I can wait.

That's cool. I've been eager to play this, but with so much else on the way soon, I'm happy they've pushed this back and given it more time for polish.

Who the hell is gonna like this crap anyways? It's destined to fail just like all the past South Park games.

They could always move it to next gen systems but given SP's simplistic art style, it wouldn't look that much sharper so it wouldn't be a big deal to port it I guess.

I just hope publisher Ubisoft, has not decided to stir it spoon in the recipe. "hey lets add some DLC, leave no ending and have some episodic content, microtransactions sounds good, and of course this rpg needs some online components. And of course it can only be leased through Uplay and not owned.

And of course lets add some teenage songs by miley cyrus - she and others are trending really well these days.

March looks good then. This and Dark Souls II. Just more reason to wait until Christmas 2014 for a next gen console.

@Gravity_Slave hehe, kind of funny though. a game doesn't get more basic in graphics (ok, maybe mario ;)) and this seems to get more delays then anything.

That would be great, unfortunately they probably already started printing the DVD inserts, instruction booklets and other small print info related to the console(s)
