SoulCalibur V to get its own FightStick

Namco Bandai welcomes Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Soul Edition to its latest fighter's "Stage of History."

by

Mad Catz has delivered more than a few fighting sticks through recent partnerships for game-specific controllers for Super Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and the upcoming Tekken hybrid. Hot on the heals of a deal for a Tekken controller, Namco Bandai went back to the hardware maker to ensure SoulCalibur V gets its own stick as well.

No sick stick pics just yet, sadly.

Product manager for Mad Catz, Mark Julio, provided a few details regarding the Arcade FightStick Soul Edition on the forum of fighting game fanatic site Shoryuken.com. The new FightStick will be similar to the Super Street Fighter IV Chun-Li Tournament Edition FightStick, but with a new button layout specifically designed for SoulCalibur. It will also sport a translucent body and cosmetic stylings to make it fit in with the SoulCalibur aesthetic.

The Soul Edition FightStick will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alongside SoulCalibur V's launch on January 31, 2012, in North America. European and Japanese availability has also been confirmed. Pricing for the Soul Edition FightStick has not been revealed, but similar sticks from Mad Catz retail for about $150.

SoulCalibur V is the latest entry in Namco Bandai's weapon-based fighter that started its life on the Dreamcast. Namco has slated 30 characters for inclusion, and the series' tradition of including guest characters from other games will continue with Ezio from Assassin's Creed confirmed to be joining the mix.

Is this a wireless stick? I wouldn't pay $150 for a wired controller like this that's for sure. The price is too high even if it is wireless. I still have the SFIV Fight Stick, so I can probably just use that. It still works pretty good. Their D-Pad is better at least for SFIV. If the controller was $70 or less I might consider it. I paid $75 for the SFIV FightStick. I can't see anyone paying $150. If it was a Hori FightStick maybe, but MadCatz controllers tend to break easily. I had bought their Saturn, PS1 and SNES controller in the past and all of them had something break on them in less then 6 months. Uusually it was the D-Pad or one of the buttons.

Bhargav_pvs not if your stuck with the standard 360 controller although the new one with the interchangeable dpad looks like it has promise.

I would buy one if that is 50$............ A normal controller does the job pretty good... Do i need a fight stick to do the game??? I don't think so.

150$ for a peripheral that's choppy, inconvenient, and tends to break easily. I'd rather just buy a 30$-45$ controller that'll last me more than a couple of months.

hey MadCatz I had like seven of their controllers for the N64... they all broke within a week.

Wait...this will use a MadCatz peripheral...? And they're PROMOTING this fact...? I r confused... Seriously, how long do you give it before people start referring to this as the MadCatz ****stick?

cant wait! soul cal 4 ruined all other fighting games for me. None could live upto the fun i had with 4. All that can compete with it is another soul cal so i shall live happily when 5 comes out. No sticks though for me waste of cash

If a stick is a good size, weight and easily customizable, it's a good stick. MadCatz make good sticks.
