Soulcalibur Legends to be told on Wii

Next installment of Namco Bandai fighting franchise coming exclusively to Nintendo's console.

From Soul Blade on the PlayStation to Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast and Soul Calibur III on the PlayStation 2, the Soul Calibur series has traditionally been a one-console type of fighter--multiplatform Soul Calibur II aside. The next installment looks to call a single system its home as well, as Namco Bandai Games today announced Soulcalibur Legends exclusively for the Wii.

While Namco Bandai is promising that the Wii's motion-sensing controller has "revolutionized" the series, that won't be the only wrinkle Legends brings to the series. For one thing, the game is a third-person action adventure, instead of a one-on-one fighter. Players will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to hack their way through levels littered with enemies as well as larger bosses.

The game will once again center around a cast of characters all seeking ultimate power, although Namco Bandai has suggested they share the common goal of saving a 16th-century empire. Fans can expect to see new characters join a cast of favorites, with the gigantic-sword-wielding Siegried and whip-blade-equipped Ivy already featured in the game's promotional art.

Soulcalibur Legends is scheduled for release this winter.
