Sony 'working closely' with Bethesda for Skyrim DLC on PS3

Company rep confirms "big, broad dev support team" working with Elder Scrolls studio to remedy issues keeping content from platform; no resolution timeline offered.

by

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's first batch of downloadable content--Dawnguard--arrived for the Xbox 360 in June and hit the PC in early August. It has yet to release for the PlayStation 3, with Bethesda claiming the content may never come to Sony's platform. Now, Sony has said it is working closely with Bethesda to remedy the issues.

Skyrim DLC remains MIA for PS3.

Sony vice president of publisher relations Adam Boyes acknowledged gamers' concerns in an interview with Kotaku, but offered no timetable for when the content may finally hit the PS3.

"We work with all of our partners to try and solve their problems," Boyes said. "We have a big, broad dev support team that works closely with Bethesda--and with all of our partners--to work with them to solve that any sort of issues they have along the way."

"Of course, I always want everything to work always for everyone," he added. "I can't promise any kind of resolution or timeline but can say that everyone involved is trying their best to get this stuff working."

Skyrim's second DLC offering, the home-building-themed Hearthfire content, came to the Xbox 360 last week. It has not yet been announced for the PC or PS3.

I haven't played skyrim in 2 months and have put my ps3 copy on ebay. I am tired of it. Crappy frame rates, blotchy graphics, constant freezing, etc. What annoys me the most is the frame rate issues when fighting. Compare that to the xbox/PC and it isn't a choppy mess. I was amazed at the difference. I plan to get it on pc when the price drops.

I think it's got more to do with money than code, Microsoft may have bought the rights to the expansions and now there's a fight over Sony getting it.

Awesome, if only they hadn't been 'working closely' for flimsy games such as Free Realms, the only value of which is the fact that it is one of the only PC-also mmos for the PS3 I wouldn't have to pay fees for--NOT THAT I DISLIKE LOSING MONEY EVERY MONTH!

What would be classy here would be if Bethesda offers this either free or discounted due to the time delay involved.  Or Sony could offer to subsidize some of the cost.  Doubt it will happen, but sure would be a popular move.

It would be great if this issue is solved, but to me it is too late. I've aready stopped playing Skyrim on the PS3 and started playing on my very first gaming pc (FINALLY!!!!).

This is good news to get it released on PS3 as soon as possible.

Suppose Sony will have to show how they program the dam engine to by pass the issues there having, I would love to read in the future what the issues where but I doubt that info will ever get released. It dont matter by the time even dawnguard gets out I'll be truly hooked to Borderlands 2 anyways

Here's hopin' this works out. Sony did, after all, fix up Bayonetta for SEGA.

Either way, Skyrim was the last new game I buy from Bethesda. It really is a good thing they're staying away from the Wii-U and next gen hardware considering they've yet to get a handle on the current gen hardware, as of yet.

Good luck Bethesda i hope it works out .

Too late. Watched it all on YouTube :P

Hopefully this issue gets resolved. It would also be nice if Bethesda actually learned from this experience.

I am starting to care less and less the longer this drags on. I mean, I still haven't done everything there is to do in Skyrim. Well, everything I want to do. I still haven't even had a mage character yet.

So Sony decided to bring out the big guns to help Bethesda with their homework! Kidding aside, it's good to see Sony come to their aid, instead of just brushing them off, or ignoring it. I thought Sony had the more powerful machine though? Well, at least according to some of the rabid Sony fanboys. Kidding again. I know, it's the architecture, or pc like design the 360 has, which makes it easier right?

Umm Sony can we possibly get you guys to help us get this DLC out on your system??? We seem to be having a little trouble??? WTF!!! @ least they didnt just say screw it. I'll give them that. They actually do care & are working hard to get it to the PS3 fanbase. I respect that. I hope they can get it done.

Vodoo

Sony isn't "stepping in," people. Bethesda ASKED them for help. Sony didn't push Bethesda aside saying "I got this." Sony doesn't care one way or the other if it works or not. It's a separate company's content. Most likely, Bethesda had to pay Sony, hire them, to help get this content working. So you guys should be more grateful that Bethesda didn't just say "screw it, it's not worth the extra effort, headache and expense." Bethesda is going through alot of extra bullshit to get this content working on your PS3's. After all is said and done, and they do eventually get it working, they're probably gonna LOSE money on it from all the extra resources spent on it.

So don't be so selfish and show them some gratitude. They're doing everything they can so you can play your frigin dlc.

About time. Bethesda, you have failed. Sony, show these amateurs how to properly make a PS3 dlc... then slap 'em in the face.

Vodoo

Now that Sony is involved they have a better chance at getting it to work. If the hardware manufacturer can't do it, no one can. They may have to take out some of the content to make it a more stripped down version to get it to work though. This should be proof that Microsoft isn't paying Bethesda to keep the content exclusive to the 360. If that were true, Bethesda would never have brought this to Sony. Looks like that guy from the gaming truth website doesn't know shit, yet continues to flap his gums like he knows what's going on behind the scenes.

@Uesugi-dono yeah the only problem is free is only popular with the people buying but the company that put in the man power and hours would lose out. no company can operate at a loss. remember kingdoms of alamur? no company make sh--t to give away for free the reduced part is more likely though.

And why exactly should Bethesda take that finacial hit because Sony is incapable of producing a console that isn't ridiculously hard to code for and gives out completely inept dev kits?

deathblow3

@Toplinkar so you have zero load times and tons of free skyrim mods. lol i would play it but i can buy games twice even if one is leaps and bound superior.

@seekerofangels you hate Bethesda because they're late to make dawnguard to PS3. Bethesda is as disappointed as the fans.

@SniperFire17 Or......maybe you should buy a Playstation, you miserable little cretin. We are happy with ours, and your seem to be happy with yours, so lets leave it as it is hmmm?

@tightwad34 exactly there is so much to do in the game already plus all the other games on the ps3 to play to keep us busy

Actually it's more like Sony stepped in to get the content working so that they can keep the fans on the PS3.  It's one of the biggest game series from one of the biggest game developers and if the PS3 doesn't get the DLC, there's a good chance people will switch over to the Xbox just to have access to it.  Sony saw that and decided to finish the job that Bethesda isn't capable of doing.

@Vodoo ms has 1 month exclusiveness for skyrim. it was suppose to be ready by now.

(Oh, man... and I KNOW I shouldn't feed the trolls)

I dunno, maybe because Bethesda is incapable of learning to develop for a console that's been out for 6 years?  Oh, and tell Naughty Dog about how hard it is to code for.

@TohouAsura  @Toplinkar 105 hours fo fun and counting. :P. There is a little downside to no load times, I'd like to read those quick hints and stories that show up on the loading screens. :(

@Rifqi_Hb  @seekerofangels I used to really like Bethesda, but IMHO they have been a bit disappointing as a publisher lately at the very least.  Hunted the Demon's Forge and Brink were both downright bad games, Rage was good but most people would call it average, and (again IMO) Skyrim is one of the most over rated games ever (and yes I have played it, it's good but not the godly game people make it out to be). So for me Bethesda has one more shot to resolidify their reputation and that is Dishonored.  If it doesn't live up to the hype I'm done buying their games.

Serpentes420
Serpentes420

@tightwad34  @SniperFire17 Because he is one of the hordes of little teenaged douchebags inhabiting XBOX Live. I have both systems and for the longest time liked XBOX better, but now I realize that PS3 is overall my preferred system.  Don't have to pay $60 a year to do stuff like chat with friends, use netflix, or play multiplayer AND on PSN there is a ton of free stuff like free to play DC Universe and coming soon free to play DUST 514.  And you get free games every month if you join Playstation plus (which costs as much yearly as XBOX Live gold).  What does a 360 fan have to crow about? Better controller, more arcade games to choose from to buy, and DLC first and that's about all I can think of

Kunakai

@tightwad34  @SniperFire17 Most likely because he can't afford a PS3, sad thing is he thinks the 360 is the best version of the game lol.

@Fenixx  @Vodoo more like help. there giving them in house level dev support because your right sony doesnt want to have the better game version on their competitors device. if they game sucked bethesda would be sol.

Both companies have the incentive to make it work since it benefites both of their bank accounts, let's not be under the illusion that anyone did it for the sake of the consumer.I love most of the games Bethesda have put out (excluding Brink, what a pile of arse) and have no real hate for Sony.

@Uesugi-dono  @Undietaker Surprisingly i find killzone 3 did extremely well in the graphics far better than UC3. But some how ND gets the praise although the graphics rendered is rather mediocre.

@Uesugi-dono you cant really use in house studios as examples when it comes to games they get the full suite kits and full support. because they work for the company do you think sega had and issue with the saturn? every one else did though thats why it perform horribly. even if naughty dog had an issue with the ps3 why would they bite the hand that pays them and make there issues public?

If you really don't know just how much of a hassle the PS3 is to code for you really shouldn't be commenting. Google it for christ sake, you'll find hundreds of quotes from DEVS all around the world saying just that.....

@serpentes420 your entitled to you opinion for sure. but as a person that has truely enjoyed there games i have to say. wth are you smoking skyrim was amazing once you get into the good stuff like a rpg's is the later levels it really becomes a game for the ages.
