Sony shows off prototype PS4 headset, charging station

PlayStation maker displays in-development versions of accessories for next-generation platform.

Sony has offered a first look at prototype accessories for the PlayStation 4, including the system's headset, charging station, and stand.

The accessories were on display today on the E3 show floor at Sony's booth.

The charging station is compatible with two DualShock 4 controllers, while the console stand supports the system when positioned vertically. Both peripherals are black, just like the PS4.

The PS4 mono headset features a single earbud, volume control, and a clip to attach to a piece of clothing. All accessories are prototypes and are subject to change, Sony said.

The PlayStation Eye peripheral for the PS4 will retail for $60, though Sony has yet to announce what other add-ons will sell for individually.

The PS4 launches later this year for $399, a full $100 below Microsoft's Xbox One.

The PS4 must have built-in Bluetooth so can't I just use my official PS3 headset? Would be silly if it wasn't the case

These chat headsets have got to go.  Bluetooth worked great last gen, Sony, why take a step back?  The logical step forwards from supporting Bluetooth headsets is to package one with the console!  Not to make a flimsy and obnoxious wired one like the Xbox 360 had!

Does the headset come included with the console?

I liked the lack of voice chat in ps3, seriously! but now all the kiddies online will shower us with their small vocabulary consisting of  words about moms and fags.

i think this headphone is better than the one that came with the 360 because if you think about it the 360 headset you could barely hear anyone talking through it due to the fact that it was so low as where with this headphone it's actually in your ear so you can expect to actually hear someone only downside is when you talk into it is it delicate i don't want a friend sitting like 2+ ft away able to talk through the headset

I am pretty sure this is the headset that is packaged with the system.  Glad Sony decided to do this.  I know a lot of people buy after market headsets, but that was a big plus for xbox 360 having a headset out the box got people jumping right in to voice chat. I can't wait for Ps4.

Also i know they have announced cross game chat does anyone know if that is party chat where you can have multiple people grouped together or one on one chat?

Ps4 has bluetooth so it looks like I get keep my headset.

I was surprised that the x1 decided to put such a heavy control over their accessories.  No bluetooth or standard sound output is ridiculous

I love my Sony Pulse headset. I'm sure it's going to be fully supported with the PS4. I hope.

Looks good when you have that in mind that most of the sounds is coming from the TV so I don't need huge earphones

What about the millions of other gamers who don't like earbud designs? Guess we should just buy 3rd party headsets for the PS4, the sound quality will be significantly better anyway since 80% of dedicated headsets are "over ear" design. Makes for better sound stage when you have bigger headphone/headset drivers.

What happens when I want to play games online and be naked? I will have no clothing to clip the headset on to. My poor nipples.

Sony headset is much better way than the earbuds.  I'm sorry I can't hear anything, but I don't mind to buy the PS4. :)

I like it, plus I assume the mic picks up sounds well enough to not have to have it stuck to your mouth like the xbox headset... god that thing was horrible.

I'll use it, but I'll look for something cheap like M$ headset, I prefer that to an earpiece. I got Socom with the free Sony bluetooth earpiece and that f*cking thing starts hurting my ear after 30 minutes to an hour of having it on.

Pics show optical out back of the console, and they have bluetooth for chat, so my TB headset shouldn't have any issues. Not a big earbud guy anyway.

I'll be curious to see if Sony listens to the obviously negative response towards ear buds and changes the design. It's a pretty minor thing in the grand scheme of things but I think a slight tweak on the design to show that they are listening would really go a long way towards cementing PS4's lead in this next gen console race.

@realguitarhero5 these aren't even as good as those crappy 360 headsets, this is like what I got with an old cell phone, but so far the only disappointment

@monson21502 Just buy the ps3 7.1 headset and use it. It with probably will be compatible.:D

@oo7superdave someone asked this in another article and someone posted a link saying it would support party chat don't recall either article or link though.

@Devils-DIVISION The PS3 supported mostly any Blue-Tooth headsets and the PS4 also supports Blue-Tooth, so I'm sure it will still be compatible with most devices, Sony brand or not.

@Digital_DJ_00 If you have one for your PS3 or for your phone, you're good to go. Where I live, it's illegal to talk on the phone while driving if you don't have a hands free device, so most people have a blue tooth headset anyways.

@zzamaro @Crossel777 Sadly what sadly. This is the type of headset that I wanted to see and not a chunky call office style one that comes with the 360 at the moment.
