Sony releasing PlayStation 4/Vita bundle for $500 - Report

Well-placed, anonymous source alleges Sony may be preparing to bundle its struggling handheld with its upcoming home console.

Sony may be readying a hardware bundle that includes a PlayStation Vita handheld with its upcoming PS4, according to a report by Machinima (via VideoGamer.com).

According to "a well-placed, anonymous source," the package will reportedly go on sale before the end of 2013, and will retail for around $500. No additional details were made available. With the Vita currently retailing for $250 as a standalone device, and the standard edition of the PlayStation 4 priced at $399, a $500 pack would represent a significant saving for consumers.

Sony previously announced that all PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the company's handheld via Remote Play, though only games that have been "specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita" will be able to use the handheld as a controller for the home console.

GameSpot contacted Sony Computer Entertainment seeking confirmation of the rumour, but a spokesperson was unavailable at the time of publication.

I think this would be the only way I get a vita for sure.  $250 is overpriced and not many games for it.

I also concur with others that they need to step up with the vita releasing more games for it.

Hmm, not a BAD deal per say- I love my vita- but they're going to have to step it up with their games.

If the Vita had some games that I wanted, this bundle would be a definite purchase.

Even for 550$ it would be great.

If the bundle does exist then it would be great value, but only if the Vita had both the strong games and console functionality to warrant a purchase of both. Perhaps Killzone Mercenary might finally appease the Vita?

Only reason they might consider this is because in their own QA they said the vita was a flop. It's not selling well at all.

LOL sourcing youtube a s legit place for this kind of info shows a lack of respect for the intelligence of gamers.

If it did happen I might actually look into the playstation.  Like they can eat 150 dollar loss for each vita sold.. OUCH.

ok.... this is  the deal... give me  a ps4+psvita bundle and... SHUT UP! AND TAKE MY SOUL... my money i mean...

Sounds like a really great marketing strategy. However, In reality, I don't think that's going to happen at launch, due to high demand of the console. Meeting their launch schedule is already a challenge. Let alone that too-good-to-be-true price point.

This is more likely to happen later, but if they could pull this off nicely at launch, it will surely drive more sell and push even more pressure on their competitors.

That would be one hell of a bundle. Shame the games are lacking for Vita.

Won't this announcement hurt PS4's sales? I don't much care for handhelds, but $100 for the Vita is too good to pass up. I can imagine a good number of people who hasn't pre-ordered Day 1 to wait and see how this rumor pans out. Who is this source? What's he playing at?

I don't think Sony is in a comfortable enough position financially to able to eat losses on Vita by doing this, as much as I think this bundle would be great for the consumer.

Unless production of Vita has become way cheaper that what it was before and at release.

Good deal in comparison to the original price... Bad deal in terms of "Will I honestly use this?"

If I could get a cheap Vita I definitely use it, but I'd probably just get the free games from the Instant Game Collection. I wouldn't want to be spending $250 plus $40 a game on a handheld.

Please take the Vita from us, No one wants it on it's own lol.

If true that's one hell of a deal.

That's a really good deal. The Vita's a really good piece of tech. Those of you who have been holding out on getting it, now you have no excuse.

I love Sony, but there's absolutely no way this is happening. For 500 dollars anyway. That would make the Vita literally cheaper than a used PSP at GameStop. It sounds too good to be true because it undeniably is. The fact that this rumor got started in the first place is ridiculous, who would believe that Sony could package the Vita at such an immense loss? 550 dollars I would have almost believed, but 600 makes a lot more sense.

If they do this, it could be a very good move for the Vita.

But don't make this look like an official announcement, please. It's a rumor at this time, nothing more.

Using an article title that sounds like an announcement to draw people in to read a rumour (no matter how well sourced it may be) is poor form, Gamespot.

This just reads "Vita selling poorly; Sony shovels it into an Xbox One-priced bundle with PS4" to me.

warorpeace2020

same price of a psp the vita would get, and the bundle would rival even more xbone's price (i just use that name cause its shorter, no objections against the xbox one, except the kinect). though i dont think it could really rival the wii u deluxe, as it is 150$ cheaper than this box. but just seems like sony wants to use all good ideas nintendo offered... again

this reminds me of when sony release the move, or better saying, the sony improved version of the wiimote

This is just fantastic -said by no one ever..

Sony is just clearing out some of the inventory they have over this flawed handheld...an aspect of gaming that is quickly being over shadowed by smartphones and tablets...

enjoy the paperweight and watch the dust grow on it.

@robertcain I'm in the Beta, it does. Killzone Mercenary makes Resistance and COD on the Vita look like Track and Field on the NES, a bunch of WTF on a 8 bit cartridge...

drknessfeeds

@valknight Well they lost money on the ps3 for every console sold and made it back, maybe they are hoping for the same with the vita...

lowerclassbrat7

@Mecamatt Not only does this bundle sell people Vita's but it sells people PS4's instead of Xbox's. For the same price of an XB One Sony offering a PS4 and a Vita would win a large sum of converts.

WhiteStormy
WhiteStormy

@Mecamatt It's not really that far fetched if you think about it.  After all, they sold the PS3 for a loss, so why not the Vita.  As long as they can get the hardware in peoples' hands, that's all that matters.  They get more money from software sales.

@Dylan Poe Sizer  Hmm shitty Kinnect or awesome Vita, what shall the masses purchase.

@lostastsea22485 Did you type that opening line without doing any research at all? Just browsing this very comment section would have sufficed.

@lostastsea22485 This is just FANTASTIC! A bundle designed for PS3 users who are looking to complete their Sony package. It will maximize the value of Playstation Plus, offer a controller experience that would rival the Wii U, and that would put Microsoft into a corner with their Xbox One pricing. Anyone who will be getting the PS4 will at least have some interest in this bundle.

@beardface21 Well I hope the supports there... It's an appetising deal.. I also hope this occurs in the UK for a reasonable price

I agree! If this happens, I do kinda feel bad for those whom already pre- ordered it. Kinda...
