Last month, Sony announced its PlayStation Suite program, which would bring original PlayStation games to devices running Google's Android operating system. Those devices would include an increasing number of tablet computers, intended to compete with Apple's omnipresent iPad.

One company that hasn't been touting a tablet is Sony. However, according to a report on Engadget, that will soon change. The tech blog today ran a piece outlining Sony's in-gestation tablet, code-named the "S1." The device will boast a 9.4-inch screen with a 1,280 x 800 pixel display, as well as a Tegra 2 processor. It will also run a version of the Android Honeycomb operating system that Sony's VAIO team is customizing personally. The extra software flourishes are intended to differentiate the device further from the iPad.

Another differentiator between the Sony S1 and the iPad will be the former's reported gaming ability. Engadget says it has confirmation that the tablet is PlayStation Suite-certified and will come with several PS One games preloaded on it. It may also have some Remote Play connectivity with the PlayStation 3.

Other features of the device apparently include a "wrap" design, which will make it easier to type on when placed on a flat surface. It will also include a Bravia Media Remote, as well as an IR port to control various devices, and may support Sony's Qriocity streaming media service.
