Sony plans Ape Escape sequel

Catching apes is back in business with the true sequel to Ape Escape for the PlayStation 2.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced that it is currently developing Ape Escape 2 for the Sony PlayStation 2. The game will be a direct sequel to the first Ape Escape, in which players had to catch apes using fishing nets and several other gadgets. The company has already released Ape Escape 2001 on the PS2, but that game was not a true sequel. Ape Escape 2001 had a different play mechanic, where the player had to use a vacuum cleaner to collect the pants off monkeys.

In the true sequel, Hikaru, the cousin of Kakeru (who was the main character in the previous title), will become the main playable character. The game will now also feature a supporting character to help Hikaru during the game. No release date or pricing has been announced for Ape Escape 2 at this time, but we hope to have more on the game in coming weeks.
