Sony debuts Harry Potter PS3 holiday bundle

New bundle packs three films featuring Hogwarts' most famous wizard with 160GB console for $249.

by

The season of big game releases is almost over, but Black Friday and the holiday run-up sales period is still on the way. To provide console shoppers with one more option, Sony has introduced a new PlayStation 3 bundle that packs in plenty of Potter.

Pick a pack of pickled Potters. (Note: Movies are not actually pickled.)

Sony today announced a new $250 console bundle that will include a 160GB PS3, a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 on Blu-ray in 2D and 3D, and download vouchers for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A 30-day trial of PlayStation Plus will also be in the package.

3D has seen a big push from Sony during the past couple of years and the electronic giant touts the PS3 lineup as offering more than 60 games that support 3D. This new bundle also coincides closely with the recent launch of the company's $500 24-inch 3D display.

Funny thing is my friend bought this bundle unwillingly so I told him I'll buy Harry Potter Blu-ray and voucher for $15 and give him a hdmi cable. I save about $10 bucks off the movie and get two free movies while $15 and the hdmi cable would be around $20 making his system a total of $230. that set his mind at ease.

It's because PS3 HAS NO GAMES.

This worst bundle ever in playstation history.

Interesting. However, it would of been cool to put in the games, despite how crappy they were.

@Freezezzy Let's be honest - you'd be a lot less interested if they included the Harry Potter games in this bundle. LOL

It's not a bad bundle considering it is the same $250 you'd pay for a regular 160GB PS3, so you get the movies for free basically. You want the whole collection + LEGO they probably bump it up to the $300 bundle price point.

I don't know about the other countries of the world, but with HP being the most successful UK film franchise ever I reckon this is quite a good move by Sony for the UK. I wouldn't buy it myself, but there's a lots of kids in this country that would no doubt love it.

You would have thought that if they were going for a movie bundle instead of games, that they'd go whole hog and offer the entire boxset of all the films with it on blu-ray... seems silly to only offer the latest and a couple of others to download.

Much better PS3 bundles out there people, avoid this one.

Would be a great deal if it included all the Harry Potter blu-rays not just one.

I thought the Lego Years 5 to 7 would have been bundled with it. Not bad for a bundle though.

I thought this bundle was gonna include some Harry Potter GAMES, not movies. I mean, I know the PS3 can play blu-rays, but this is still a GAME console, isn't it?

They should at least include a copy of My Immortal, one of the best pieces of Harry Potter fanfiction you will ever read.

I would have taken both "Deadly Hallows" movies and called it a done deal....... Still, it's a nice bargain that i might have to look into. No, it doesn't have any games, but it's still a nice bundle with a decent HD for $250! Pick it up with a game or two on Black Friday.

I don't know that the bundles are ever worth it for consoles, I mean I've never went for one though there have been a couple I kinda wanted in the past like the Halo XBOX, Halo Reach 360 and the Resident Evil 5 360. While I saved up for the PS3 I actually bought 4 or 5 games before I ever had the system. when I finally got it I had some good games waiting.....MGS4!

There are other PS3 bundles that have been far better than this. No games? At LEAST include both Lego Harry Potters, for crying out loud. Only one physical blu-ray of half a movie, and digital downloads of only the first two? This is kinda petty, since you can get the first two movies on blu-ray for like $10 each now. Well... at least until WB pulls them all in favor of the boxsets. This is a lame package for someone who has yet to purchase a PS3.

Should've just stuck both Lego Harry Potters and the most recent movie in.

Anything Harry Potter is fail. This is one of the worst bundles if not the worst Sony has done.

Weird. A videogame bundle who doesn't come with any games.

Anyone who's a crazy fan will already own the books and movies. On top of that, 3 movies out of 8 is kind of meh. Give us all of them. Lastly, and more importantly, if you're buying a PS3 to watch Harry Potter movies, you're doing it wrong.

Wouldnt it make more sense to include Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows instead of the first two movies?

I'd rather buy a game bundle. Easier to sell if I don't care for the games.

Since the last Harry Potter movies sucks they wont to make us buy them. Well, this doesnt work for me.

Going to pick up the 320GB Uncharted 3 bundle. Target has a $50 gift card to go with it all for $299. Going to see if I can get it today. This bundle sucks. If they had included a 320GB Slim with with the Harry Potter Lego games, I might have considered it.

For the price it's a steal. They should release some gaming bundles too for making gaming audience interested too. Although I would have preferred Deathly Hallows Part 1 instead of first two movies but this choice makes sense too as Part 2 is 3D and one is not and they are trying to grab casual people with 3D blu ray player that plays games

With so many 1st party games, this is the best they can do for a bundle?

@zzamaro How is it a rip-off it's the same price as the base PS3 model and you get 3 movies for free.It may not cater too us gamers but it's hardly a rip-off
