Sony cancels its own preorders for cheap Beyond: Two Souls copies

Sony offering affected customers a $5 eCoupon after pricing error in June saw game being sold for $34.99.

by

Sony has cancelled preorders for copies of Beyond: Two Souls that were purchased as part of a pricing error on its own site at the end of June.

The game was temporarily on sale for $34.99 at Sony's online store, which is almost a 50 percent saving on the game's traditional price of $59.99. The budget pricing was in error, Sony has confirmed to customers via an e-mail sent to GameSpot.

Sony is offering affected customers a $5 voucher as compensation, adding that the individual codes are "good towards the pre-purchase" of Beyond on the Sony store, which has now returned to its correct price of $59.99.

Beyond: Two Souls, which spans 10 hours, will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on October 8 in North America. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's recent interview with game director David Cage.

I just noticed they cancelled mine after realizing I never received it. Email address I dont use so i never saw the email. F*ck you Sony. Now I'm not buying the game at all. Never.  Sorry Quantic Dream but you lost a sale and I'm sure even more.

Probably wasting my time here, but I just have to say it....

"Sony cancels its own preorders for cheap Beyond: Two Souls copies"

That is the most confusing fucking title to a news article I've ever seen.  It sounds like Sony the company preordered it's own game and canceled it's preorder for some reason, which makes no sense. And after cancelling, got Beyond: Two Souls instead for cheap.

I doubt they were losing that much due to the temporary error.  its your mistake, bite the bullet, don't be so petty Sony.  Honour the price and move on.  Creating good customer experience is worth a hell of a lot more than $25.  Now you have pissed off customers.....

assholes. If it were priced that on Amazon, they would match the price. Sony should have offered a coupon a $26 coupon instead

I don't know what the law's are like in the U.S but in Australia if they stuff up the price they have to sell it to you at the marked price, no way around it.

"adding that the individual codes are "good towards the pre-purchase" of Beyond on the Sony store," - so you give out a voucher for $5 that can only be used to pre=order the game we already pre ordered but it's $60 now???

who does that give you 5 dollar credit for anything you want in their store because they screwed up a sale price? Or are they only giving you back what money you put down for pre-ordering as a 5 dollar credit I am confused now. If that is the case that's messed up if not 5 free bucks seem legit.

Kind of stinks they didn't honor the price because it was their mistake. But giving customers a little money in return is more than most companies do, most just cancel orders without even really giving a reason why.

Microsoft fanboys laugh at this while they have been buying 2-3 xbox's because of RROD, or because their overpriced hard drives ran out of space. In Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on the xbox I could always tell when terrorists were spawning because the fan would get so loud. True story

They really should have just honored the price for people that were able to grab it >.> Even if it was an error, this is just an ass move on Sonys part.

Why do people pre-order games? Especially online games?

$34.99 was a real price for the game that has only a 10 hour of gameplay on Bluray.

I feel sorry for you guys: For two reasons, because it was just too good to be true and you have to pay now the full price of the game, and because you still support David Cage's vision of negating the role of  video games as games, in favour of  interactive B' movies and "Jason -Jason" sequences.

@scatterbrain007 I know right...that title had me totally confused. At the same time it did make me go, "WTF? I have to read this!" so maybe it was all part of the master plan...

Ripper_TV

@straightcur Exactly. They could've even put a good spin on it. "Look at us, we've honored it". The only issue here is everybody else gets jealous and not buying the game at all.

@OurSin-360 Can't say why online.  I have friends that work at Gamestop so I preorder with them to help their sales out.  Plus if I'm paying full price either way, the little pre order bonus is a nice incentive.  It also helps developers to gauge the interest in their games, since if X amount of people preorder, then Y amount of people will actually buy it day one.

@Rheinmetal Why can't games deliver both game play AND interactive movie like experiences? I like both of those aspects of gaming. Your nihilistic attitude that games need be one way or nothing is ludicrous. Some people like having 'interactive B movie' experience games some people like mindless action games, some people like thoughtful puzzling games, some people like strategic games etc. etc. there is room for all of them.

I can't understand people's concrete thinking on what makes games games or what makes games good. Seems very counter to why we all play games in the first place.

lalo4017
lalo4017

@Rheinmetal Basically they just got 5 bucks on PS Store for free though. They do not need to pre-order the game again if they do not want to pay 60 for it and the 5 bucks can be used on anything on PS store. I think its okay

lol. Atleast Sony isn't trying to fuck you in every possible way when it comes to gaming.

Microsoft on the other hand.....yeah. THey may have done the 180 but guess what? All that DRM is still in there. and since most gamers never read the ToS, Microsoft is more then likely going to slowly put that shit back into your console after they get their install base because they can do whatever they want to your console because...its in their ToS.

lalo4017
lalo4017

@vatorus @lalo4017 but they also reimbursed the money you put down for pre-order right. So you get your money back and the voucher. I want to believe that is the case cause if you are still pretty much forced to pre-order because they did not give you your money back or they gave it to you in the form of a voucher that is really messed up.

@Banyek 1000 games for free?  And where would you get those 1000 free games? Pirating?

@devild0ogwhite @OurSin-360 I like it when I get posters. Like right now you can a poster for Diablo 3, for Destiny, for watch dogs and COD Ghosts at Gamestop. Only got the Destiny and watchdogs ones because I really don't want to support the next COD game it looks very assy and Diablo 3 well is Diablo 3.

that's cool. i don't know where you saw me mention MS, but you should take a look at sony's DRM scandals. pretty interesting stuff.

of course, you're entitled to your own crazy logic, and i'm sure sony has your best interests in mind. it's not like they  need to worry about surviving as a hardware company with a failing hardware division.

@Simplythebest12 @blue_shift_91 have fun with PSN being down at weeks at a time and updates that brick your console. I guess you never hear of Sony war against piracy and the root kit?

@Banyek @frylock1987 @SchnabbleTab You're a cheap son of a bitch, devs deserve money, they put in a crapload of effort, sleepless nights to hit deadlines and are often taken advantage of by publishers. PAY FOR YOUR GAMES!

And this is coming from a predominantly P.C gamer, yes some of us pay for our games (300+ on steam and alot more off it, all legit)

aku47
aku47

@Banyek @frylock1987 @SchnabbleTab are you actually suggesting one console is better than another because its more pirate-able? You compare legitimate hardware and software not hacked systems. ps plus gives you free games just for being a member and lets you try almost any game for free while xbox live doesn't. Most people argue that is why they pirate games anyways so they can try before they buy. If you're just not planning on ever actually buying a game you're the reason legit games get slammed with painful drm and shit.

@frylock1987 @Banyek @SchnabbleTab nope, not the new super slim one, the ps3 used to be just llike you said, but not anymore... but  feel free to proove me wrong with a link, so I might buy a ps3 right now!

Funny, Because PSN was only down for a few months due to a hack attack which can happen to any company or government run program only once during its whole console span.

@megakick Both Sony and MS have done or do overly stupid things.

Also, you're acting like XBL has never been hacked or been down *laughs* Or the MANY security breaches of Windows OSs which, btw, are going to be on every X1 console now.
